Top 5 Ways Universities Can Use Twitter to Connect with Alumni

Companies and individuals make great use of Twitter as part of a social media strategy, but Twitter is also a top-notch tool for colleges and universities. Since universities usually have students who spend a small part of their lives there before going off in thousands of separate directions, the ability to connect with alumni is crucial. Alumni support colleges financially, and they also give schools a sense of spirit and community. Here are the top 5 ways universities can use Twitter to foster lifelong bonds with graduates. continued…

College Admissions & The Social Media Revolution

These days it seems like social media spills over into almost every aspect of our lives. We use it to keep in touch with all of our friends, brands use it to approach potential customers, and many companies use it for recruitment and for screening employees. In recent years, social media has become an important part of college admissions as well, with colleges and universities using sites like Facebook to target prospective students, open communication channels and even help in the admissions decision process.

College Kids and Parents Connect Online. Is This Bad?

A new study from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills in the United Kingdom reports that more British parents are using newer technology to stay connected with their children away at school, according to AllHeadlines.

Now, my mother and I weren’t always the best of friends, but while in college I still called her every Sunday afternoon. Back then, I called her on her landline. She rarely used her cell phone and had no idea how to send or receive text messages. Things have changed in the past few years, and my mother now happily embraces her Blackberry, email and LinkedIn. But how much easier would things have been if my mother had been on an online social network when I was in college?
