Experian Hitwise: Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Rallies Its Way Up the Charts

Movement and surprises were scarce in Experian Hitwise‘s rankings of the most-visited television Web sites for the week ending Oct. 30.

The cable-news chart was topped by Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor, with the pre-suspension Countdown with Keith Olbermann from MSNBC coming in at No. 2, and MSNBC Live finishing third.

Comedy Central snatched the top two spots on the late-night talk-show list, with The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report. NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was third.

CBS was the top-ranked broadcast-network Web site, followed by ABC and NBC. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars took top honors on the broadcast-show-site list, trailed by Fox’s Glee, and CBS’ NCIS. The only fast riser in the broadcast top 25 was ABC’s Modern Family (to No. 20 from No. 31).

On the cable side, Comedy Central’s South Park topped the list, with The Daily Show coming in second and the No. 3 spot going to MTV’s Jersey Shore. Fast risers were The Daily Show (2 from 7) and MTV’s 16 and Pregnant (5 from 11).

When combining broadcast and cable, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants assumed its usual No. 1 perch, followed by South Park and The Daily Show. Fast risers were The Daily Show (3 from 21), Bravo’s Top Chef Just Desserts (10 from 39), and 16 and Pregnant (12 from 33).

Hitwise: Late Night is All Right for Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report

Comedy Central surged up the Hitwise rankings of Web sites for late-night talk shows for the week ending Oct. 2, with its The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report grabbing the top two spots in the recent addition to the researcher’s statistics, with NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon securing third place.

The cable-news category also saw plenty of movement compared with the previous week, with MSNBC’s Zeitgeist roaring into the top spot, followed by Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor, last week’s winner, and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann, which also finished third last week.

The top three broadcast-show Web sites were unchanged from the week ending Sept. 25: ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, Fox’s Glee, and CBS’ NCIS. CBS, however, overtook ABC to become the most-visited broadcast-network site, with the Alphabet Network settling for second. Fast risers among broadcast shows were ABC’s Desperate Housewives (to No. 6 from No. 23), CBS’ Undercover Boss (18 from 47), and CBS’ The Good Wife (22 from 35).

The top two cable-show sites were unchanged from last week — Comedy Central’s South Park, as usual, and MTV’s Jersey Shore — but third place went to MTV’s Teen Mom. Fast risers for cable were Syfy’s WWE SmackDown (15 from 71), A&E Network’s Steve Seagal: Lawman (19 from 192), ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars (20 from 33), Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef (21 from 341), Animal Planet’s Lost Tapes (24 from 44), and TLC’s Sister Wives (25 from 90).

When combining broadcast and cable networks, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants returned to its customary top spot after being bounced by Dancing with the Stars (third place) last week. The No. 2 spot went to South Park. Fast risers were Lifetime Television’s Project Runway (14 from 25), and ABC’s Desperate Housewives (16 from 47).

Hitwise: Late-Night Talk Shows Added to Rankings, Won by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

WebNewser received the weekly television-related Web-site reports from Hitwise for the first time in three weeks, but the results for the week ending Sept. 18 came with a surprise: Late-night talk shows were added as a category, joining cable news, which debuted for the week ending July 3, as well as mainstays broadcast networks, broadcast shows, cable (adults only) shows, and broadcast and cable combined.

NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was No. 1 in the late-night category, followed by TBS’ Lopez Tonight, and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman.

MSNBC’s Zeitgeist topped the cable-news rankings, with Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor coming in second, and third place going to MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show.

On the broadcast charts, CBS and NBC were the top two broadcast-network Web sites, respectively, and the top three show sites were CBS’ Big Brother and Survivor, followed by Fox’s America’s Most Wanted. Fast risers were four offerings from The CW — One Tree Hill (to No. 7 from No. 22), Gossip Girl (10 from 26), 90210 (17 from 36), and The Supernatural — and Fox’s House (12 from 24).

Comedy Central’s South Park maintained its grip on the top spot for adults-only cable-network show sites, followed by MTV’s Jersey Shore and Comedy’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Fast risers were Bravo’s The Real Housewives of DC (18 from 30), Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race (19 from 45), and VH1′s VSPOT Top 20 Countdown (25 from 36).

When combining broadcast and cable shows, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants occupied its usual No. 1 perch, with Big Brother coming in second and South Park third. Fast risers were Survivor (6 from 33), Fox’s American Idol (22 from 51), and One Tree Hill (25 from 96).
