Sony Expands Crackle with Ad-Supported Movies and Television

According to Eric Berger of Sony Pictures Television, viewers spend about 50 minutes per visit to Crackle on connected TVs. Crackle can be found in the Channel Store on Roku, on the PlayStation 3 Internet Browser home screen and on all BRAVIA Internet Video devices. Crackle is partnered with Google TV and can be accessed via the Spotlight section.

Android Devices Get Some Crackle from Sony

Crackle, the streaming-video portal from Sony, can now snap and pop on Android devices, as two apps were released via the Android Market: a free version for viewing clips, and a $4.99 premium app for access to full-length films from studios including Columbia Pictures, Tri-Star, Screen Gems, and Sony Pictures Classics, paidContent reported.

An iPhone version is in the pipeline as well, paidContent added, via the Los Angeles Times.

Films currently available via the premium version include La Femme Nikita, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Drunken Master, while TV series include Married with Children, Charlie’s Angels, and Spider-Man.

Canadians who’ve got a hankering to watch more free, legal online video content, including films and television shows, will be happy to hear that Crackle.com has now officially opened up its doors to Canadian viewers. Crackle, formerly known as Grouper, has been offering online streaming video content for a few years now, but since April 2009 it was only available to viewers in the United States. The site opened its gates to viewers in the UK and Australia last June and this week announced that it is now available in Canada as well.
