Kobo Is Using An Augmented Reality Game to Promote eReading

Kobo has created an augmented reality game to promote eReading. The game is called The Descent and is inspired by Dante’s Inferno, Dan Brown‘s upcoming book Inferno and the works of the self-published author J.F. Penn, which are themed around Dante’s Inferno and the nine circles of hell.

The promotion encourages readers to download and read two free eBooks by Penn  – Sins of Temptation and Sins of Violence (both of which are Kobo exclusives)– in order to look for clues to crack the code of the online game.  The author’s third book in the series, Sins of Treachery, comes out in September. The first player to arrive at the final step of the gave will be awarded $5,000 and an eReader signed by Dan Brown. The promotion runs through May 14th, when Brown’s new book hits bookshelves.

The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, his body covered in baffling symbols. Facebook Unveils Graph Search

Facebook revealed its new Graph Search tool today. It will only be available in English at the launch and is currently in beta testing mode.

The social search will let you find people who like the same things as you and search for particular themes or times among your friends. For instance, you could find out how many of your friends are excited about Dan Brown‘s new book. Check it out:

Graph Search and web search are very different. Web search is designed to take a set of keywords (for example: “hip hop”) and provide the best possible results that match those keywords. With Graph Search you combine phrases (for example: “my friends in New York who like Jay-Z”) to get that set of people, places, photos or other content that’s been shared on Facebook. We believe they have very different uses. Another big difference from web search is that every piece of content on Facebook has its own audience, and most content isn’t public. We’ve built Graph Search from the start with privacy in mind, and it respects the privacy and audience of each piece of content on Facebook. It makes finding new things much easier, but you can only see what you could already view elsewhere on Facebook.

In Dan 3.0, Dan is putting his life in the hands of viewers, putting out a video every day for a year and taking suggestions from fans about what he will do and how he will live his life. So far Dan 3.0 has been a hit, with Revision3 traffic doubling with the show’s launch.
