Ashton Kutcher Follows Through on Ding Dong Ditch; Rick Sanchez Not Amused

So yesterday in Atlanta, Ashton Kutcher made good on his promise to ding dong ditch Ted Turner‘s house for beating @cnnbrk to be the first Twitterer to 1,000,000 followers. But Kutcher went one further, climbing to the top of the house Turner built, CNN’s Atlanta HQ. And CNN’s Twitter hero Rick Sanchez (@ricksanchezcnn / 89,919 followers) didn’t like it one bit.

“You know what that is? I’ll tell you what that is. That is, if nothing else, a publicity stunt.”

Early Thursday morning, Kutcher and his wife Demi Moore (@mrskutcher) also dropped off a thousand ding dongs and rang the bell at a nearby Ted’s Montana Grill.

The Million Follower Man: Kutcher Celebrates Twitter Victory For World To See

“It’s the Web vs. the world, people!”

At 2:13amET today, Ashton Kutcher (@APlusK) successfully defeated CNN (@CNNBrk) in his quest to be the first Twitter member to reach 1 million followers (the contest was for charity).

After a late push by CNN to take the lead — an on-air promo for the Twitter feed — Kutcher took to his version of “on-air”: Ustream.tv. For nearly two hours, Kutcher live-streamed from his house, featuring special guest appearances from his wife, Demi Moore (@MrsKutcher), Soleil Moon Frye (@MoonFrye) and a phone call from Diddy (@IAmDiddy).

“Today we have done something extraordinarily special…You guys are all of it, because I can’t follow me,” he said after the victory. “I don’t even count. There are a million people that need to be thanked for this, and I’m not one of them.”

The final minutes of Kutcher’s live-stream are below. At 11:30 — Diddy’s phone call, at 18:15 — victory:

• Broadcasting & Cable’s Alex Weprin writes about how CNN.com looked early this morning, and a tipster points out that CNN sent a 6amET email “news” alert. As of now, CNN.com still has it as a latest news item: “Kutcher hands CNN its lunch” (You can even buy it as a CNN.com shirt!)

Greta Van Susteren weighed in on the “humiliation” of it all on Gretawire (as she often does).
