One in Five Social Network Users Play Social Games

Farmville might be even more appealing to gamers than previously thought according to new insights from consumer and retail market research firm NPD. In their latest Social Network Gaming, the firm digs deep into what propels gamers towards social games, and what appeal games like Farmville hold for those who were not gamers before signing up for Facebook or another social network. And while some of the findings confirm the general assumptions of those in the know, there are many new stats that will help social gaming companies position their products to appeal to this new breed of gamer.

Report: 23% Of People Over 50 Prefer Facebook As Their Social Network

New research from AARP finds that social networking is more important than ever to older Americans, with over 25% of people over 50 using a social network service. The research provides solid evidence that this demographic should be targeted as part of advertisers’ social media campaigns.

Demographic Of The 7 Most Popular Social Media Sites [Infographic]

The team over at Flowtown has developed a pretty slick infographic which illustrates the demographics of 7 of the most popular social media sites. It’s an interesting chart that I thought was worthwhile to share with the readers. While there aren’t any quantitative data points listed, it’s definitely worth a quick glance to see how the various sites compare to one another.

Announcing the AllFacebook Demographic Stats

Today I released a pretty easy to use widget which enables users to track Facebook demographic statistics. You can read more about it in today’s Techcrunch article. I’ll be rolling out some more features in the coming weeks for all of our statistics tracking tools. Facebook currently provides some basic information for users and there are a number of other sites as well but I figured that users would like more robust tools for tracking the activity on Facebook.
