Back in December YouTube launched a new homepage design followed by a full site redesign that’s being called the “New YouTube.” The New YouTube features a brand new channel design and layout that requires a bit of setting up for content creators and YouTube is giving users a couple of months to get used to the new changes before migrating all channels to the new design.

Last night Vimeo hinted on Twitter that today they’d have ”a HUGE announcement” and this morning they haven’t let us down. On the Vimeo blog, they announced a brand new Vimeo. Vimeo hasn’t just redesigned their site, they’ve completely torn the old Vimeo down and built a new one from scratch that puts greater focus on your videos, improves the user experience and incorporates new features that the community has been asking for.

YouTube To Launch New Player Complete With Thumbnail Previews & Storyboards

Back in July YouTube launched Cosmic Panda, a new experimental redesign of the site with a simplified, sleeker look. Now they’ve taken their redesign mobile. The new experimental YouTube Mobile site draws in elements from Cosmic Panda, darkening things up a bit to make it easier on the eyes.

Just days ago Google launched a redesign of their search engine and it looks like YouTube is next on their list. Earlier today, YouTube announced “a new experimental experience for videos, playlists and channels.” It’s called Cosmic Panda and there’s no denying the fact that it fits perfectly into the whole Google+, Google redesigned branding experience.

Over the past year or so, YouTube has made a number of changes to their video player. In April 2010, they rolled out a new design, in August of last year they updated their post screen, and just weeks ago they began offering a new logoless player for embeds. Now it seems that YouTube is at it again, rolling out a brand new video player design.

iPad, CNNMoney, paper.li: Tablet Influence on Design

CNN Money Redesign Mimics Tablet Experience

Looking at CNNMoney.com, I can see the “flat” look that we’ve come to associate with some apps and websites designed for use with the iPad. However, it looks even more like the paper.li personalized newspapers built from linked tweeted by the people an individual follows. You can see what my paper.li page looked on May 11 below.

Of course, what we are probably seeing is not so much CNNMoney emulating paper.li but the multiple sources of design influence for all levels of presentation. As the U.S. moves towards data capped networks, we should see another round of redesign aimed at reducing the size of individual web pages to reduce the impact of data caps.
