YouTube Offers Fans a SportsCenter Moment

Sports fans: If you’ve captured a great sports moment on video and thought, “This ought to be on SportsCenter,” here’s your chance. YouTube teamed up with ESPN on the second installment of the YouTube + SportsCenter Your Highlight contest, sponsored by AT&T.

Videos must be submitted via the ESPN YouTube channel by May 5, and SportsCenter producers will select the best ones, which will then be voted on by YouTube users. The winner will receive a trip to ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn., to tape a special SportsCenter segment.

Super Bowl Quarterback Camp with ESPN, Bing

ESPN and Microsoft-owned search engine Bing are gearing up for Super Bowl XLV Sunday, Feb. 6, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with multiplatform initiative “I Am a World Champion,” which will focus on Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks.

I Am a World Champion will combine online content, segments during ESPN’s NFL Live and SportsCenter, and the Bing World Champion Quarterback Panel Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. CT, part of ESPN-The Magazine‘s 2011 NEXT event at River Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas.

All 28 Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks will be profiled online, and TV segments will be added for Terry Bradshaw, Len Dawson, Roger Staubach, Bob Griese, Jeff Hostetler, Brad Johnson, Jim Plunkett, Earl Morrall, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien.

ESPN ScoreCenter App Hits Samsung App Store

ScoreCenter, an app from ESPN that delivers scores and statistics to Web-enabled television sets from Samsung, is now available via the consumer-electronics manufacturer’s app store, AdAge.com reported.

The app can be scrolled across the top of the screen, the bottom, or the side, according to AdAge.com, which added that it may be made available to advertisers for custom sponsorships.

Insiders Only for ESPN-The Magazine, ESPN Insider iPhone Apps

The ESPN-The Magazine and ESPN Insider iPhone apps are currently awaiting Apple approval, but ESPN Publishing general manager and editorial director Gary Hoenig told paidContent the Disney-owned sports giant is tying the apps to its premium ESPN Insider membership.

The initial download will be free, according to paidContent, but after one digital issue of the magazine, current ESPN Insider members can use their login, while others will be prompted with an offer to pay $9.99 for six months, with plans also available for $60 for two years or roughly $40 for one year.

Hoenig told paidContent:

We don’t see it as a major means to add subs or revenue. We see it as a great way to promote the overall Insider experience. To me, the question is not whether people will pay, but how. … If you make that easy, people will do it; you don’t, they won’t. Right now, with the possible exception of Amazon, no one comes close.

Chevrolet is the presenting sponsor, with placement across the apps, the magazine, and the ESPN Insider site, paidContent reported.

The YouTube launch looks to be the beginning of a major social media campaign for ESPN, bringing Facebook and Twitter into the mix as well.
