Examiner.com Named as Launch Partner for Facebook Commenting Plug-In

Local news network Examiner.com will be a key launch partner for Facebook’s new Commenting Plug-In, which incorporates comments from the News Feed on the social network into the comment threads of publishers and Web sites, as well as adding replies to comments on those sites to the News Feed.

The collaboration will allow users to comment under their true identities, increasing engagement. Comments on Examiner.com stories will be published to friends on Facebook, and friends’ comments on the Facebook News Feed will appear in the comment threads for Examiner.com articles.

The Commenting Plug-In also offers moderation tools, with every comment having the option of being either public (all users) or private (only the commenter and friends).

Examiner.com Adds LivingSocial Daily Deals

Local news network Examiner.com will jump into the daily-deal fray by partnering with LivingSocial to offer its readers discounts of up to 90 percent at local businesses including restaurants, bars, spas, and theaters.

Examiner.com will offer the discounts in all 130 markets where LivingSocial is currently active, via a mix of feeds and local media placements. LivingSocial will also be the lead daily-deal provider in Examiner.com’s Insider Deal marketplace.

Examiner.com Taps Tom Woerner as Senior VP, National Sales

Former Brandweek publisher Tom Woerner joined local news source Examiner.com as senior vice president of national sales, after serving as a consultant to the company since July.

Woerner, most recently founder and president of marketing company Vergrandis, will be responsible for driving national revenue, primarily through the Examiner Connect custom marketing program.

He founded Vergrandis, a marketing consultancy specializing in brand strategy for media organizations, in June 2009. Prior to Brandweek, Woerner also worked with CMP Media, Entrepreneur, and Home Office Computing.

Examiner.com Checks In with foursquare

Local news network Examiner.com is taking hyperlocal to a new level with its announcement that tips from its contributors will now be featured on foursquare.

Users of the location-based mobile app who follow Examiner.com will have access to information about nearby venues, restaurants, events, businesses, and landmarks in the 233 local markets covered by Examiner.com, and local tips will also be displayed when non-followers check in nearby.

Examiner.com-branded badges will be added to the partnership during the first quarter of the year, awarded to foursquare users who check in to local hot spots identified by Examiners.

Examiner.com Closing 2010 on High Notes

Local news network Examiner.com is closing out 2010 with two significant milestones: It posted article No. 1 million for the year earlier this month, and it set site records for monthly unique visitors and total page views in November, tallying 22.4 million and 63.1 million, respectively, according to Omniture.

And according to comScore, the site’s traffic rose 19 percent in November compared with October, making Examiner.com the No. 83 domain in the United States and No. 7 in the general news subcategory, ahead of brands including Fox News, BBC News, USA Today, and NBC Local Media.
