Hulu Now Lets You Facebook Your Favorite Moments

As more and more social TV apps pop up, it has become apparent that the future of TV is social. Hulu is jumping on the social bandwagon with a big announcement this morning—they are making the Hulu experience even more social with Facebook integration.

In a blog post this morning, Hulu Product Manager Betina Chan-Martin writes, “TV has always been a social experience. We gather with friends and family to watch our favorite shows, sporting events, movies, and news. When we get to work, we meet around the water cooler and chat about Tracy Jordan’s latest stunt in the previous night’s 30 Rock. We text each other during the results of The Voice, and we blog about the latest politician skewered in John Stewart’s opening monologue.” We rush to Facebook and Twitter to find out what our friends are saying about our favorite shows and join the conversation. Now Hulu is helping to get this social conversation started with Facebook on Hulu.

There are a few new features and actions that viewers can take, thanks to Facebook integration on the site. One of the coolest is a new feature that lets viewers comment on a specific moment in time while they are watching a video on Hulu. Say, for instance, that you wanted to comment on what someone was wearing in a particular scene or a specific line of dialogue from your favorite TV show. The new feature lets you do that, and then share that exact moment with your friends on Facebook.

Now users can easily log on to Hulu using their Facebook accounts and interact with Facebook friends directly from Hulu. Your homepage is tailored to you and you can check out your friends’ favorite shows and start and join in on conversations with people who follow your favorite shows. Additionally, you and your friends can recommend new shows to one another, helping you discover new content.

Connecting to Hulu with Facebook is easy. When you go to Hulu.com you will be directed to connect through Facebook Connect and then you can visit the ‘Community’ area to see what your friends on Hulu are doing.

This is amazing news for Hulu. We have seen again and again that people love to feel engaged and to be able to socialize with their friends while consuming video content, online and off. This added benefit will give Hulu a leg up over other services, not to mention a lot more traffic via referrals when users post comments and specific moments to their Facebook profiles.

Have you checked out Hulu’s new social features yet? What do you think of Facebook on Hulu?

Megan O’Neill is the resident web video enthusiast here at Social Times. Megan covers everything from the latest viral videos to online video news and tips, and has a passion for bizarre, original and revolutionary content and ideas.

Desperados Tattoos Your Face On A Hot Chick In Interactive YouTube Takeover

Desperados Tequila-Flavored Beer may have just won the award for the best YouTube takeover in history with ‘The Desperados Experience’, a new campaign that hit the video site earlier this month. Like previous YouTube takeover campaigns from Samsung, Tipp-Ex and Sly Stallone, Desperados takes over the YouTube interface, smashing it up and making it their own. But they’ve taken things to the next level, incorporating Facebook connect to make you and your friends part of the action.

Users who type “social” immediately following “youtube” in the URL for any YouTube video will automatically be redirected to the platform, where they can invite friends by sending them the URL or using Facebook Connect, with the latter resulting in automatic chat messages generated via Facebook, according to TechCrunch.

SocialVision may expand YouTube Social to MySpace and instant messaging, TechCrunch reported.

5 Reasons Second Cup Coffee Offers Free Wi-Fi To Customers Who Connect With Facebook

If you’ve ever spent a night at a local pub, you’ve probably heard of Golden Tee Golf, the arcade cabinet first released in 1989 and one of the first golf arcade games in existence. Following up on their 2000 launch of Golden Tee Fore, where players could participate in tournaments from around the United States, developer Incredible Technologies released Golden Tee Live, which took the tournaments to a whole new level, with coordinated leaderboards and available prizes. Recently, the games have introduced two social elements, Facebook Connect and Youtube Uploads.

Twitter To Get "Slick Connect-like Packaging"?

According to Techcrunch, Twitter is working on a new service which competes with Facebook Connect, however details about this supposed product are scarce. As any developer knows, Twitter was already an effective competitor to Facebook, supporting OAuth authentication and providing a robust API to third-party developers. However a new package is in the works and while Mike Arrington doesn’t have details, I would venture to guess that this means the creation of a JavaScript library and new widgets.

There Are Now 8 Million Google Friend Connect Communities

In an interview with Xconomy, Mussie Shore, one of the developers behind Google Friend Connect, says that “8 million communities have formed with Friend Connect”. What do those communities consist of? The same widget which shows up in the sidebar of this site. The number is massive considering that Facebook Connect is now on “tens of thousands” of websites. I’ve written about the service extensively since it first launched and as of now, it’s being hailed as a great success.

Can you build a community around a Facebook Public Profile, and will that help in your own blogging endeavors? Wibiya has created a service that is banking on the ability to do so, which has become an easier task given the continued updates to Fcebook’s platform, namely Facebook Connect.

Leveraging an existing fan base/community from Facebook in order to drive traffic and build up your own blog is a concept we support here at Social Times and AllFacebook, as it goes along with the marketing ideas put forth in some of our articles. But recent updates to Wibiya mean that the process of utilizing Facebook for your own purposes could be made that much easier.

iPhone Apps Go Social via Facebook Connect, or Shall We Say Where Are Thou Google Friend Connect?

It was supposed to be a quiet Saturday when suddenly news regarding a Facebook announcement started going around the tech circle. What’s the fuzz all about? Nothing fancy really, it’s just that the Facebook Developers’ blog announced that Facebook Connect is now enabled on the iPhone. This simply means that iPhone games and apps developers can now make their applications more socially easily using Facebook Connect.

HerHotSpot launched late last year as an online destination site aimed at Gen Y women. With the site off to a great start, HerHotSpot is looking to take things to the next level with Facebook Connect integration. As HerHotSpot is a content network as well as a social network, creating a blend of forums, advise, Q&A and editorial content, I spoke with HerHotSpot co-founder and CEO Brette Borow about the site and how Facebook Connect integration can help this startup grow.

LivingSocial Adds TV via Hulu, Supports Facebook Connect

LivingSocial, the social discovery tool for sharing your favorite media items, has just added a couple of new features that make its user experience a little better. For starters, LivingSocial has added TV to its growing categories for media sharing and recommendations, broadening your options further than just books (which LivingSocial started out with), dining, movies, music, beer and more.

Yes, LivingSocial had a beer category before it had a TV category, but it may have been worth the wait.
The use of a Hulu application allows you to view television episodes within a tiny pop-up, meaning you don’t have to navigate away from LivingSocial in order to see a particular episode.
