Google Acquiesces and Censors Content in India

What Are People Saying About SOPA on Google+, Facebook and Twitter?

Unless you’ve been hiding in your IP-hidden digital cave for the last few weeks, you’re probably aware that the Internet is currently rife with protests for SOPA, the Stop Online Privacy Act. Critics from Silicon Valley and various technology companies around the world blacked out their sites to protest the bill, which effectively would give the American government a kill-switch to shut down websites that have pirated content.

So how has the social web been responding?

Do You Dumb Down Your Posts for Facebook? Google+ May Be for You

As Google Plus begins to win its followers, we’re seeing a bit of a culture shift on the users of the network. As with any new technology, the first adopters tend to be a close-knit bunch, and out of them, inevitably, come a few users who stick their nose up at any earlier, unsophisticated options. Browsing Reddit, the best social news source on the web, I found corroborating evidence.

Facebook Devs Ask for Help On Reddit — Get 750+ Comments

If you were to ask me to list a few of the most influential sites on the web right now, there’s no doubt that Reddit would be in the top 5. While the sparse design of the site turns some away, the volume of traffic and quality posts as well as the smart comment sorting make it a hive of useful information and a source of endless humor. As some Redditors’ lovingly refer to the population of the site, the ‘hive mind’ is like an anonymous group of millions of people, expressing their thoughts together.

That said, I’m starting to see companies and brands try to take advantage of the intelligent community, and like they always do, some Facebook developers have jumped on board.

VKontakte and Facebook Play Important Social Role in Russian Protests

If it weren’t for the light bulb, groups of people could not gather together at night to work and read. This is one of the examples that Marshall McLuhan uses to explain how the medium — or the technology — is vitally important in creating new experiences for humankind. Is social media such a technology? We’ve had the web forever, but like many pundits pontificate, the web was about pages, now it’s about people, and that’s because of social media. And, like many protests before it, the current set of protests in Russia are using two main services for their revolution: VKontakte and Facebook.

For The CEO Of The Future, Social Media Is A Must [Infographic]

These days more and more companies and brands are understanding the benefits of social media and are jumping on board with marketing campaigns on Twitter, Facebook and beyond. However, it’s surprisingly common for company CEOs to be absent from the world of social media. Many CEOs don’t even have a Twitter account (and many of those that do have very few tweets and even fewer followers). But a new infographic from CEO.com reveals that an increasing number of CEOs are figuring out social media and seeing great success as a result. It looks like the CEO of the future is going to be a whole lot more social.
