CNN‘s South Africa 2010: Twitter Buzz received an award in the category of Innovative News at the United Kingdom’s Royal Television Society Awards.

South Africa 2010: Twitter Buzz enabled fans following FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa to monitor and visualize Twitter activity, providing an interactive visualization of how many Tweets per minute each topic generated, as well as photos representing soccer topics generating the most buzz, which changed sizes as the number of related Tweets fluctuated. Categories included players, teams, and topics, and fans were able to browse back through an archive of Tweets from the past 24 hours.

Qatar 2022, which is attempting to bring the FIFA World Cup to the Middle East for the first time ever, is getting a big kick from Facebook, as its page on the social network has drawn more than 500,000 fans.

The host nations for the 2018 and 2022 soccer tournaments will be announced Wednesday.

Qatar 2022 said its Facebook page has received Likes from countries including Egypt (90,000), Jordan (45,000), Saudi Arabia (38,000), Qatar (31,000), Lebanon (23,000), Nigeria (22,000), Palestine (18,000), Ghana (17,000), the United States (14,000), Kenya (14,000), Israel (10,000), and South Africa (6,000).

The organization added that U.S. English was the most common language used to access its Facebook page, at 265,000, followed by Arabic (113,000), U.K. English (60,000), and French (20,000).

Go USA Bid brought out the big guns in its efforts to rally support for the United States as the host country for FIFA World Cup 2018 or 2022, releasing a video narrated by Morgan Freeman and featuring Spike Lee, Bill Clinton, and Mia Hamm.

The video is aimed at bolstering support for the USA Bid Committee, as winning locations will be announced Dec. 2. The celebrities are joined by “a celebration of fans and players from across the country expressing and displaying their passion for the game,” according to Go USA Bid.

Freeman wrote in an email to supporters:

I am proud to lend my voice to this remarkable effort to bring the FIFA World Cup to the United States. Soccer is the world’s game, its beauty and simplicity embraced by people in every corner of the globe. I have seen the game’s power to bring people together, to stoke their passion, to realize their dreams. Together, we are living the power of soccer.
