Services like Dropbox increase the amount of storage accessible from a smartphone, providing a place to put pictures and other files that you might need to access but don’t want taking up previous storage space on your phone. Minus.com also provides file storage, but it is optimized for sharing files.

You have to give the folks at DoubleTwist a pat on the back adding innovative features to their music player. Over the last several weeks they announced an upgrade that adds AirPlay support to the DoubleTwist music player, and at Google I/O conference they announced Near Field Communication (NFC) based MP3 file sharing between Android phones. Unfortunately, while I like how DoubleTwist is utilizing NFC, I am afraid that MP3 sharing might not withstand possible legal challenges from the music recording industry.

Called phone.io, the applet works by providing voice-related options for drop.io users. In doing so, users are now more easily able to leave voicemails, podcasts and other audio message files in their accounts.

One of phone.io’s most appealing use-case options is for voicemail messages, which seems to be building off of drop.io’s recently added conference call capabilities. With phone.io one can leave a voicemail message for themselves or other users, which can then be downloaded, embedded or shared across the social web. There are one-click sharing options for creating voicemail or podcasts in real time, with sharing options for iTunes, RSS, email, Twitter, and Facebook to name a few.

Music from existing Drop.io folders can also be added to your playlist, with drag-n-drop capabilities. As with anything sent to your Drop.io account, a playlist can be made private or can be shared with privacy settings.
