Adding Simple Web-Based Photo Effects

picreflectThese days kids are bouncing out of public schools with academic Web training. That means many of them know how to create Web pages, produce podcasts and manipulate photos. Many bloggers I have met are proficient on one thing, and that’s writing. They really have no interest in a lot of the other elements that make a blog successful, such as images.

Picreflect is a neat little Website that can add a new dimension to your blog. Actually, a new reflection. If you have 10 seconds and a digital photo, you can add a reflection. All you have to do is indicate the following: Read more

Track Packages Via Twitter

track_thisThere’s nothing more exciting than getting a package. I vividly remember being a little kid, perched in the window, hoping that the UPS man was coming to our house.

Even as a grown up, a surprise FedEx at work can be a thrill. There’s just something magical about the unexpected. Heck, even anticipating a package is exciting. Remember the last time you ordered something from Amazon and constantly refreshed the shipping info?

Thankfully, there’s an easier way to track packages – meet @trackthis via Twitter.

All you have to do is send a message to @trackthis with your trackingnumber (and a nickname so you can identify it) and you will get a shipping status update as your carrier posts it. Goodbye F5!

You can set your account up to get updates on the Web, through e-mail, IM or SMS. Currently, FedEx, UPS, USPS and DHL codes can be tracked.

Just make sure you set your account to ‘follow’ @trackthis.

In the end, much to my technically-challenged wife’s chagrin, I opted to pass on Microsoft Office. Heck, why should I pay to type when I can increase memory and go wireless for the same cash? Read more

The Easiest to Use and Best Free Website Builder Ever?

webnodeEven some of my most sophisticated connections don’t have the slightest idea on how to build a simple Website. Even though I have limited design/backend experience, I always seem to be the guy people contact to help them build up their Web presence.

I have an announcement: I am officially retired as a Web designer. But fear not, dear readers, friends, family and colleagues! WebNode can do it better that I could – and just like me – they’ll do it for free! Read more

Free Stock Photography Images for Bloggers

picappLet’s face it: even the best blogs usually have crappy pictures. In fairness, there are plenty valid reasons why:

1) Content creators often (mistakenly) treat images as an afterthought.
2) Bloggers don’t have time to track down corresponding pictures.
3) Tracking down free images is difficult.
4) Purchasing royalty-free images is expensive.

Startup PicApp is hoping to blow all of those reasons out of the water by giving bloggers a free and easy way to include high-quality images on their Websites. So what’s the catch? The embeddable Flash media photos have contextual advertising hidden behind them, with both PicApp and the stock photo providers getting a cut. Read more
