ABCNews.com Launches pre-GMA Webcast

This morning ABC’s “Good Morning America” launched what will be a daily 15-minute live webcast on the ABCNews.com homepage and “GMA” page. It’s called GMA@6:45 and streams from 6:45 to 7:00 a.m.

This web program, hosted from the GMA set in Times Square, offers a jump start on the top political stories of the day leading up to — and teasing — GMA. ABC News’ Political Director, Amy Walter is one of the hosts, and this morning ABC News’ John Berman co-hosted. Berman did his damnedest to wrap up the weekend’s political news in 60 seconds. Jonathan Karl then came on to talk in depth about them: shady fundraising, Obama campaigning, and Tea Party news.

Berman also took viewers for a walk into the GMA control room — “On the Internet, we have to walk backwards” — used the iPad to show a Kentucky Senate campaign ad, and had a special appearance from George Stephanopoulos.

Dan Harris, Bianna Golodryga, Juju Chang, and Ron Claiborne will be part of a rotating co-host team. If you’re a political junky this is a a quick, entertaining look at the state of midterms now just a week away. Here’s the first episode:

Facebook to Live-Stream ABC News' Midterm-Elections Coverage

ABCNewsLogo.jpgABC News will live-stream its election-night coverage Nov. 2 on Facebook starting at 8 p.m. ET, including some reporting from the social network’s headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif., reports Caitlin Fitzsimmons of sister blog All Facebook.

In addition, Facebook will solicit members from key congressional districts to explore issues and interact with news broadcasts on the network, with questions, comments, and opinions, as well as questions for local debates, according to All Facebook.

World News anchor Diane Sawyer and chief political correspondent and Good Morning America co-anchor George Stephanopoulos will lead ABC News’ coverage of the midterm elections.

Katie Couric: “I Don’t Think Anybody Gives a Rats Ass Whether I Am About to Eat a Tuna Sandwich”

During a mid-week trip out west, tvnewsers Katie Couric and George Stephanopoulos spoke to a group of aspiring journalists at USC as each received Walter Cronkite Awards from USC’s Annenberg School.

GS_4.16.bmpAbout using the Web personally and professionally, Couric said, “I Twitter and blog very selectively. I don’t think anybody gives a rats ass whether I am about to eat a tuna sandwich. I don’t even care. Some of it is so inane and narcissistic and bizarre I don’t quite get it. I don’t know why anyone would want to read it, much less why I would want to write it.” Of course, Couric Tweeted her stop at “American Idol” the night before.

As he told TVNewser recently, Stephanopoulos told the students he’s gotten questions for his “This Week” guests from some of his 366,000+ Twitter followers, adding, “it is a way for you to have a better sense of what is going on out there in the country.”

Is This TV News’s First Twitterview?

George_3.17.jpgWith only 140 characters to ask and answer a question there is little a politician can do to filibuster during an interviewer’s questions. Such was the case this afternoon as ABC’s George Stephanopoulos conducted the network’s first Twitterview. The Twitterviewee: Sen. John McCain.

The questions ranged from AIG to foreign threats to Sen. McCain’s daughter. And, again, with only 140 characters, there’s very little depth here.

Here is the twanscript from the Twitterview… with most recent Tweets first.

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: Thanks a lot george, let’s do it again soon. now i look forward to reading our followers comments and insults.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: Thanks for your time Senator. You’re a good sport I know I’m not getting anymore on Coulter and Ingraham Happy St Pat’s again

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: like any family we agree on some things and disagree on others.

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: I’m proud of my daughter and she has a right to her opinions.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: Lots of twitterers want to know: what do you think of Meghans’s feud with Coulter and Ingraham?

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: too early to draw that conclusion.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohMcCain: Cheney said on CNN that Obama putting US at risk of new terror attack Agree?

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: both. the challenges are different but both significant.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: What worries you more: Pakistan or Iran?

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: I’m working with others on alternatives – cong paul ryan has some great ideas.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: Take point on 1st AIG bailout How about budget? Will you offer alternative?

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: to follow up – first AIG bailout was pre-tarp.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: Obama says GOP can’t “just say no” on budget Will you offer a full alternative to Obama budget?

SenJohnMcCain: i voted for first tarp but that doesn’t mean i voted to bail out AIG.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: RIght, but didn’t you vote for first TARP, which went to AIG?

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: i haven’t seen it but i would explore every option. I repeat, we wouldn’t have this problem if we hadn’t bailed them out

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: ok, but today: should bonus contracts be broken? Dodd wants a targeted tax on bonuses OK with that?

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: i would have never bailed out AIG, the real scandal is billions to foreign banks.

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: AIG: Would a President McCain break bonus contracts? Obama teams says that would cause more harm than good

SenJohnMcCain @GStephanopoulos: Happy St. Patrick’s day – slow, sometimes pc somtimes bb

SenJohnMcCain: Happy St. Patricks day

SenJohnMcCain: both, usually pc sometimes bb.

SenJohnMcCain: hi george im a little slow

GStephanopoulos @SenJohnMcCain: Happy St Patrick’s Day! First things first: How do u tweet — dictate or type? Blackberry or pc?

ABC News Host To Conduct First Twitterview

Last week, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos conducted a back-and-forth Twitter exchange with Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, who is one of the most prolific Twitterers in Congress.

TwitterGSJM.jpgWell now, the moderator of the Sunday morning public affairs show “This Week” will conduct his first Twitterview — an interview via Twitter — and he’s doing it with Sen. John McCain.

We’re going to attempt to conduct a full interview exclusively on Twitter — complete with the 140-character limit!
All a part of exploring new ways to connect with our “This Week” viewers online. So, if you have any suggested questions for me to ask Sen. McCain — in 140 characters or less — “twitter” me!

Last Friday, msnbc.com’s First Read wrote about how Sen. McCain has gone from being a “candidate who acknowledged during the 2008 presidential campaign not using e-mail or Blackberries to now being a Twitter touter.”

TVNewser conducted its first (and so far only) Twitterview in September with CNN’s Rick Sanchez.
