[Infographic] At a recent Socialize event in Toronto, a few panelists pointed out that people may be looking at Google+ the wrong way. While most are trying to categorize it as a social network, the speaker felt that Google+ couldn’t miss because it was just a way of strengthening social SEO, and as the years pass, it will become more and more vital for companies to use it to improve their SEO anyway, and eventually this will draw people to Google+ through Google search.

I feel that this idea is spreading through businesses pretty fast, and seeing as how starting a basic Google+ business profile has almost zero risk and a very low cost, we’re seeing companies get into the space quick. The latest? Airlines.

Facebook and Yahoo, also named in the case, are sticking to their guns and saying that they can’t police the content of their sites as that content is uploaded by users.

President Obama completed his first live Google Hangout on Monday, and the results were pretty good. Google has put up the video, and you can see that whether you agree with the answers or not, the overall effect of having Americans from all over the country asking live questions to the President is a very effective way to see the President in a variety of situations. Unfortunately, for this particular interview the questions were strongly moderated and the questions were a bit too vague — the whole interview had a positive vibe and some tough questions weren’t addressed.

Google Search plus Your World is the latest incarnation of Google’s search, and was released last week to a lukewarm reception. Google’s CEO Larry Page has gone on record to state that Google Plus now has 90 million users, and 80% of those users sign in weekly. He was a bit vague with the definition of ‘sign in’ and would not specify whether the 90m represented monthly active users, but at our last check we had reported that Google Plus had 49m visits in December, making this a dramatic jump for January.
