theGrio Revisits Haiti One Year After the Earthquake

theGrio, NBC News’ African American-targeted news and opinion site, is marking the anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti with news package Buried in Crisis: Haiti One Year Later, which features contributions from Mara Schiavocampo, Jeff Johnson, Todd Johnson, and Garry Pierre-Pierre.

Among the features, Schiavocampo and Johnson each produced original reports about life in Port-au-Prince since the tragedy struck, with Schiavocampo accompanying former U.S. President Bill Clinton on his visit to the island nation.

Wednesday is the actual one-year anniversary of the earthquake.

How The Isreal Defence Force Used Twitter To Save Lives In Haiti

IDF LogoEarlier this month I attended Jeff Pulver’s 140 Character Conference (#140conf) in Tel Aviv and one of the most memorable presentations was by the Israel Defense Forces. The IDF has really taken social media under its wing, being one of the first military forces to embrace networks like Twitter and YouTube. At the 140 Character Conference, IDF Spokesperson Lt. Aliza Landez and Shalev Hulio of MediAnd talked about the IDF Search and Rescue team’s use of Twitter earlier this year in Haiti, when searching for and saving earthquake victims.

Zynga's Haiti Fundraising Efforts Tops $1.5 Million

Zynga collaborated with World Food Program for the relief efforts and the generated funds would be dispersed via WFP in the affected areas. The money was raised by selling virtual goods to gamers across Zynga’s top four games.
