Google+ has undergone a makeover, and it’s cleaner, more functional and the best competitor to Facebook the web has ever seen.  There are some awesome new integrations with other Google services like YouTube and they’ve better emphasized photos and video Hangouts.  I’ve been a long time fan of Google+ and tend to think that there is room for another social network for people.  This update proves that Facebook really does have something to fear as Google has improved the user experience in a lot of innovative ways that may leave Facebookers envious.

Twitter Admits ‘Unfollowing Bug’ (The Telegraph)
The microblogging company has now admitted that there is a problem. A Twitter spokesman said: “This is a bug, and our team is working to fix it.” The bug is causing Twitter users to randomly unfollow people without account holders’ prior consent or knowledge. Twitter has advised affected people to visit its support page and go to fellow tweeters’ profile pages to check whether they are still following them or not. Cnet The site has finally acknowledged a glitch that’s causing people you follow to appear as if they’ve been unfollowed. Twitter is working on a fix but insists the bug only makes it seem like you’re no longer following someone. Clicking on the user’s actual profile page can confirm that you’re still a follower. Mashable Many Twitter users have long complained about the unfollowing problem, but it wasn’t officially acknowledged by the company until Wednesday. Read more

The history of science fiction is rife with plays on the avatar.  Whether a man is able to transfer his mind into another physical being, as in Jim Cameron’s Avatar, or live a virtual life seemingly indistinguishable from reality, as in the Matrix, there seems to be a human fascination with the transformation of our physical presence.  Google has just taken us one (whimsical) step forward towards such a dream by introducing a whole series of effects for their Google+ Hangouts service.

Watch Obama’s Complete Google+ Hangout with America [Video]

President Obama completed his first live Google Hangout on Monday, and the results were pretty good.  Google has put up the video, and you can see that whether you agree with the answers or not, the overall effect of having Americans from all over the country asking live questions to the President is a very effective way to see the President in a variety of situations.  Unfortunately, for this particular interview the questions were strongly moderated and the questions were a bit too vague — the whole interview had a positive vibe and some tough questions weren’t addressed.
