Google+ recently rolled out its Hangouts On Air tool to all of its users. In the spirit of Internet Week, which is coming up May 14 – 18 in New York City, GalleyCat and AppNewser editor Jason Boog and I decided to try it out. We invited Mashable editor-in-chief Lance Ulanoff, Buddy Media VP of communications Joe Ciarallo, and Newsweek Daily Beast senior social media editor Brian Ries to join us On Air and help us develop our game plan for the next week.

Nick Kristof: Making a Difference with Tweets

Unlike those purveying their wares in the Internet Week NY displays that surrounded his presentation stage, two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Nick Kristof kicked off his keynote “pitch” with remarkable modesty. In the technology world, he said, he felt like a prehistoric fish about to evolve.

During his presentation and the Q&A that followed, Kristof humbled social media, too.

The first day of Internet Week New York kicked off yesterday with the conference formerly known as TWTRCON. Realtime NY 11 packed over forty speakers into its presentation stream of case studies, best practices and tools for the realtime web. Social, mobile, distilling to 140 characters, coping with 1000 applications, billion-dollar corporations and three-man bands were well-represented.
