Read the reviews. iVillage announced that it will launch the iVillage App Network, and the collection of women’s-targeted apps will be overseen by Douglas Gottlieb, who joined the NBC Universal-owned women’s Web destination as vice president, user experience, from BN.com, where he served as VP of digital products.
iVillage recently launched its Red Carpet Fever app, and it will roll out two more apps each quarter, in addition to a signature iVillage app, set to launch later this month, which will feature stories, screen galleries, and other women-centric original iVillage content.
Prior to BN.com, Gottlieb worked with Sony/BMG Music, Wenner Media, and Fairchild Publications.
Speaking of iVillage, the NBC Universal-owned women’s portal is looking north of the border, reaching a long-term agreement with Canadian media company Rogers Media that will result in the creation of iVillage Canada.
The site will be independently operated by Rogers and feature content from Rogers properties including Chatelaine, Sweetspot.ca, and Citytv, as well as from iVillage and iVillage UK.
Leigh Felesky, who led Chatelaine’s relaunch last year, will be general manager and director of iVillage Canada.
Rogers will also manage all sales and marketing, along with representing Canadian ad inventory on existing iVillage sites.
iVillage revealed the winners of its Second Annual iVillage Entertainment Awards, which recognized “the actresses, actors, characters, scenes, shows, movies, and more that had the iVillage community abuzz in 2010.”

What do women want on Valentine’s Day? iVillage found out with its poll, The Ultimate Valentine’s Gifts for Women, which revealed that romance was the most important thing, with 87 percent of respondents saying that hearing the words “I love you” topped their lists. Other findings:
• 80 percent of married women and moms said spending romantic time together with their significant other was important;
• 45 percent of married women preferred a romantic dinner to other options such as roses, chocolates, a spa treatment, and a new handbag;
• 43 percent want to receive cards, while 30 percent opted for poetry or sweet nothings.
• 72 percent said Valentine’s Day is not their only night of romance each year, with that figure rising to 76 percent for moms.
• 44 percent of respondents feel that people should take advantage of the holiday to say “I love you” to everyone they care about, and not just partners.
Voting is now under way for the Second Annual iVillage Entertainment Awards, which encourages visitors to the NBC Universal-owned women’s online destination to choose their favorites in categories including “Sexiest On-Screen Chemistry,” “Man You’d Trade Your Husband For,” “Most Welcome Celebrity Comeback,” “Star Who Makes Us Proud to Be a Woman,” “Female Star You’d Want as Your BFF,” and “Cutest Celebrity Mini-Me.”

Women trust other women, but not so much for social networks. That’s the basic premise behind Women Like Me, a proprietary study from iVillage, conducted with Burke. Among its findings:
• 51 percent of respondents said they trust women’s online communities for information on products and brands, compared with 14 percent of social-network users who trust social networks for the same purpose.
• 47 percent of women’s community users say women’s online communities provide connections to the right people for advice on products and brands, versus 16% of social-networks users.
• Women’s communities were the highest-rated measured channel by their users in terms of trust, at 49 percent, with portals at 46 percent, and social networks tallying just 24 percent.
• In terms of relevance, women’s community users scored 47 percent, compared with 24 percent for portals and 18 percent for social networks.
• In terms of value, the figures were 45 percent, 25 percent, and 15 percent, respectively.

iVillage announced the launch of The iVillage Fantasy Celebrity League Game, in which players draft teams of celebrities and earn points based on how many times their “players” are mentioned in gossip blogs or entertainment news outlets.
The iVillage Fantasy Celebrity League Game is being powered by Fafarazzi, which created the fantasy celebrity league category in 2006 and has deployed white-label versions to media outlets including VH1, Lifetime, and Fox.
Looking for a New Year’s resolution? Hit the scales with iVillage as part of its 10th annual Rev Up Your Weight Loss Community Challenge, which will be hosted by fitness expert Leslie Sansone and run from Jan. 3-Feb. 14.
Rev Up Your Weight Loss will send participants daily emails including workout assignments, tips for best results, and direct links to iVillage message boards.
Sansone will answer questions from the NBC Universal-owned women’s-targeted community during an iVillage Twitterview Jan. 3.
Passing the cranberry sauce apparently doesn’t lead to passing up the family drama, as the iVillage Thanksgiving Poll found that 68 percent of respondents expect some sort of confrontation before dessert, and one in 10 said they are “dreading” Thanksgiving Day.
Who is to blame? In-laws were named by 57 percent of respondents who weren’t hosting the holiday dinner, while 50 percent of non-hosts expected drama to be caused by their mother, sister, brother, father, or children.
The economy reared its ugly head in the survey by the NBC Universal-owned destination for women, as well, with 41 percent of respondents saying they were looking to cut costs while preparing the Thanksgiving meal.
