Revision3 Tries to Become a TV Star

Revision3 is taking a shot at television, making its online video content available via platforms including Google TV, Yahoo! Connected TV, Windows Media Center, AppleTV, Boxee, and Roku, either by using those various platforms’ applications or by browsing to a TV-optimized Web site.

Shows such as Tekzilla, AppJudgment, Dan 3.0, Diggnation, Destructoid, and Film Riot are searchable via name, category, featured content, and most recent episodes, and viewers can manually search for episodes or view new content.

CEO Jim Louderback said:

We are thrilled to be able to provide users with the ability to view their favorite Revision3 shows on the best screen in the house. As online video continues to take viewing time away from traditional TV, we want to make sure that our programs look great anywhere they’re viewed, and across every screen — from the smallest one on a phone to the biggest one at home.

Episode 200, available here, features Rose and Albrecht running through the top stories on digg.com that have been creating global tech buzz.

New TV Show To Do What Web Show Already Is Doing…Without the Beer

B&C’s Alex Weprin caught up with Revision3 CEO Jim Louderback to get his reaction to the announcement that Twentieth Television is launching a TV show based on Yahoo! Buzz, the search engine’s social news site.

Revision3 already produces a similar Web show called Diggnation based around the community story selection site Digg.

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” Louderback tells Weprin. “I wish them a lot of success. Hopefully, that will expand the audience for us, with people asking, ‘Who else does this and who does it better?’”

Diggnation is co-hosted by Digg co-founder Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht. Weprin reports that Twentieth Television isn’t commenting yet on the format of Yahoo! Buzz, “though reports have former MTV VJ Ananda Lewis as a possible host.”

Louderback is completely content with his show airing on the Web. “I don’t think you can just take something online and just slap it on television. Television would destroy [Diggnation] in many ways. If we were on a network, there are a lot of f-bombs that would have to be dropped.” And then there’s the beer drinking.

Revision3 Doubles Views, Adds New Advertisers

Rev3_1.28.gifRevision3, which produces Web shows including Diggnation, The Totally Rad Show and Tekzilla, doubled its audience last year — reaching 46 million views and nearly one billion minutes of engagement.

“Our viewer numbers are especially impressive when you consider that our viewers spend nearly an hour engaged in our long form programming, such as Diggnation and Tekzilla,” said Revision3′s CEO Jim Louderback.

Revision3 has also experienced increased ad partnerships, adding EA, Zune, HP, Virgin America, NVIDIA, Sony, Axe, Squarespace, Dolby, NHSTA and Anheuser-Busch InBev to their list of advertisers.
