Blake Griffin Dunks on Myspace

Los Angeles Clippers power forward and National Basketball Association All-Star Blake Griffin will take his talents to Myspace, becoming the latest celebrity to “Hijack” the social-networking site, starting Thursday and running through Sunday.

Griffin will share his favorite music and entertainment content on the Myspace homepage, and the site will feature videos of him dunking with a camera strapped to his head. He will also appear in a short comedy video with comedian Ben Gleib.

And Griffin and Minnesota Timberwolves forward and center Kevin Love will host Myspace’s All-Star Weekend party at the Conga Room in Los Angeles Friday.

Griffin said:

Taking over Myspace this week has been a unique experience for me. I’ve had the chance to make custom videos that show a completely different side of my personality outside of basketball and share some of my favorite music and movies. It was a fun process being the editor-in-chief of Myspace.

Coach K Not Joining Twitterverse

coachk_6-17.jpgSports and social media have collided recently, with athletes and their tweets drawing major media attention. New Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari broke the news that Jodie Meeks would remain in the NBA draft on Twitter. On Tuesday, Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Kevin Love made a rookie Twitter mistake — tweeting that his coach, Kevin McHale, wasn’t returning to the team before the organization was prepared to go public with the news.

We saw Duke basketball coach Michael Krzyzewski (“Coach K”) at the 68th Annual “Father of the Year” awards lunch in New York today, and asked for his thoughts. “It’s an individual choice,” he tells WebNewser. “I do not choose to be a part of that.”

Coach K did say “People on our staff” are active on the micro-blogging site, but he wasn’t budging.

“I still want to watch the news at night and be surprised,” he said.
