Ping and Tweet … Tweet and Ping: Twitter announced that it is now integrated with Ping, the social network Apple launched as a companion to its iTunes Store.

Users who sync their accounts will be able to share posts, likes, reviews, and purchases via Tweet, and Tweets will contain song previews and purchase links.

Twitter vice president for business and corporate development Kevin Thau offered more details on the integration with Ping in a post on the Twitter Blog:

Starting today, Ping, iTunes’ new social network for music, and Twitter are making it even easier for people to share music discoveries with their friends by putting Ping activity, song previews, and links to purchase and download music from the iTunes Store right in their Tweets on Twitter.com.

Once you’ve linked the accounts, whenever you post, like, review, or tell your friends why you purchased a song or album on Ping, this activity will also be Tweeted to your Twitter followers — complete with playable song previews and links to purchase and download music from iTunes.

When you click on a Tweet that’s sent via Ping or that contains an iTunes link, you’ll see the song or album in Twitter’s details pane, with the ability to listen to song previews from iTunes, making the experience even richer.

iTunes song previews are available on Twitter.com in the 23 countries where the iTunes Store offers music.

While Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone were introducing the redesigned Twitter.com at the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, vice president for business and corporate development Kevin Thau was at Nokia World 2010 in London touting Twitter as a news source, and not a social network, ReadWriteWeb reported.

Thau said Twitter is not a social network, adding that it is for news, content, and information, according to ReadWriteWeb, and saying Twitter is changing the news industry because journalists are Tweeting stories, which is even allowing non-journalists to break into the arena.

Two examples given by Thau, according to ReadWriteWeb: Kanye West‘s apology to Taylor Swift was one of the most retweeted Tweets of all time, and, “The guy who saw a plane land on the Hudson River right in front of him didn’t think to send an email: He tweeted it.”

-Twitter Logo-It’s no small secret that Twitter is in need of a business model, and the company has hinted several times in the past few weeks that a goal for 2009 is to present a viable and sustainable business model for the microblogging platform. So a month after posting a job listing saying that it was looking for “someone who knew business,” Twitter has hired Kevin Thau as its director of mobile business development.
