'Early Show' Responds to Upset Viewers on Facebook

The feedback about the new anchor team on CBS’ “The Early Show” is filling up on the show’s Facebook page. Someone from the CBS morning news program posted this on the show’s page around 12:30pm today:

We appreciate that some of you in this forum miss the previous line-up. They are moving on to other challenges, and the new team is working hard to put on a great program every day. Thank you for following “The Early Show” on Facebook.

It didn’t take long for fans to add commentary — 99 at last count, some supporting the new anchors, but most writing things like, ” I have moved on to GMA now” and “I miss the old team with such great camaraderie..”

Earlier this month, Chris Wragge, Erica Hill, Marisol Castro and Jeff Glor replaced Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez and Dave Price. Fans have also set up a ‘Save The Current Early Show Team’ Facebook page, which boasts 1,400 likes and continues to update. By contrast, the show’s main Facebook page has more than 37,000 likes.

YouTube Sensation Susan Boyle Crosses the Pond, and the Media

Already a hit on YouTube, “Britain’s Got Talent” contestant Susan Boyle made her American television debut this morning on CBS’ The Early Show. She talked with anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and sang a bit of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables – a performance that instantly turned her from reality show laughing stock to singing sensation. That performance, first seen Saturday night on Britain’s ITV, was uploaded to YouTube almost immediately.

When the segment aired this morning, Rodriguez announced the original video had been viewed 11 million times on YouTube. By 3:30pmET, it was nearing 13 million. And no doubt, thousands more have seen other versions of Boyle’s performance.

Several versions of the clips on YouTube have been disabled at the request of producers of “Britain’s Got Talent,” but we found a version. It’s after the jump. First, the backstory on Boyle in the clip below from CBS News:

“We Can Go Over. It’s the Web.”

Early_3.5.bmpIn broadcasting, there are pesky commercial breaks that always seem to halt a good morning show conversation just as it’s getting good.

That’s not the case in Webcasting, as CBS’s Maggie Rodriguez revealed this morning.

Just after The Early Show wrapped up on TV, Rodriguez anchored the show’s first Webcast, Ask It Early. The weekly show, which will focus on personal finance for the time being, went about 21 minutes. Toward the end of the chat, Rodriguez said, “All right, let’s try to get off in the next 15 seconds so we can be out at 9:35… But we’ll go a little over, we can. It’s the Web.”

And they did. If you want to see the first Webcast, we’ve included it after the jump…
