Brian Moylan, an editor at Gawker Media (and self-proclaimed “Gawker shit talker” on Twitter), remembers a recent spate of 20 minutes that seemed like the longest ever. He couldn’t click the refresh button on enough browsers fast enough. Having just spotted a Tweet on Billy Crystal’s feed announcing the nine-time Oscars host would be emceeing the Academy Awards yet again in 2012, he posted the news.

Moylan then realized the Academy had not yet confirmed the information—and anxiously awaited confirmation hoping the post would not have to be taken down (or crossed out and amended).

Access More Of Your Media From Mobile Devices

While smartphones and tablets have the processing power equivalent to personal computers sold just a short time ago, one area in which they are significantly inferior to PCs is storage.

Five Chuckle-Worthy Media Moments in Atlas Shrugged

Apparently, the future will be devoid of social media. I saw Atlas Shrugged over the weekend, the movie adapted from the (gargantuan) novel by Ayn Rand. As expected, the performances were heroically wooden, making Rand’s prose seem almost fluid. If you played a drinking game and took a shot every time someone spoke with a contraction, you’d walk away sadly sober.

How a Planned Leak Can Hurt Your Corporate Blogging Plans

Okay, the headline is a bit extreme. To be honest, it doesn’t hurt so much as cost you a bit of opportunity. Sending out embargoed content that will appear on your corporate blog can be quite helpful to the press – and to your company, which likely will benefit from better coverage (and thus more traffic). Sometimes, the media folks get a little greedy, though: they want to run a story about your company’s announcement before you actually put it out on your corporate blog. When you compare the goodwill associated with a gift like this, make sure you get a sense of all the costs involved, too. You’ll lose specific traffic, and with it, important sales and marketing intelligence.

Corporate Blogging: Five Steps to Intelligent PR Through PR Intelligence

Are you using your corporate blog effectively for media engagement? By now, we’ve all heard (and grown weary of) proclamations of the death of the press release. Self-designated gurus are saying – and even believing – that your blog should be used to draw the media in, and that pushing out your message is becoming a PR relic. This could not be further from the PR and marketing reality we live every day While there are “pull” benefits to your corporate blog and social media marketing program, mixing them with good ol’ fashioned push marketing tactic can make it even more powerful.

Why Reporters Need to Get Tight with Corporate Bloggers

If you watch the PR world, doubtless you’ve seen the “death of the press release” bandied about. Like many things (including newspapers), it’s been dying for a while. Like many things (in this case television), the actual final breath may take a while to reach. Nonetheless, the press releases is being usurped in some cases by the corporate blog, and this creates a new set of challenges for media outlets covering companies that have turned to this form of social media.

Is Your Social Media Expert Actually Credible? 5 Steps to Find Out

I want to suggest a few questions to ask (and a few things to check) to determine whether a social media expert or his company is credible to give you advice/consult you on social media. What’s the expert’s definition of social media? How will he measure the success of your campaign? Do they have an experience in working with companies of same size? More of these questions (and explanations of what they mean) below. continued…

PricewaterhouseCoopers Predicts Fractured Audiences For Social Media

The report states that conversing with consumers “provides the only reliable guide to the commercial viability of products and services” – a finding that should come as no surprise. Perhaps less expected is a willingness by consumers to pay for unique, convenient and personalized content. continued…
