The Rapid Rise of Tumblr [Infographic]

Tumblr has been around for less than five years. Yet, it has grown relatively fast from an unknown startup to an international microblogging sensation. In the past year the company has grown an awe-inspiring 900% and clearly overshadows one of its quasi-competitors, WordPress.

200 Million Twitter Accounts… But How Many Are Active?

Twitter doesn’t always say things out directly. The company – which is private and takes that fact seriously – isn’t always forthcoming with major announcements. It doesn’t like to reveal financials, and it only lets the world know about large jumps in its user base at long intervals. And, the company is notorious for slipping big facts into small messages … as it did this morning.

5 Reasons Tumblr Has Me Hooked Now

Earlier this week I expressed my Tumblr grievances in a post about 5 Reasons Tumblr Doesn’t Have Me Hooked Yet. Well now the tables have turned. That’s right – I’m a born again Tumblr enthusiast and, although I still think that Tumblr could be even better if they responded to some of the issues I pointed out in my earlier post, I’m hooked!

5 Reasons Tumblr Doesn’t Have Me Hooked Yet

This month I finally started using Tumblr in order to track my New Year’s resolution of being more creative in 2011. At first I wasn’t sure whether I should track my progress with a WordPress blog, a YouTube vlog, through tweets alone or with some other method, but I knew a lot of my friends were using Tumblr and I’d heard good things so I thought I’d give it a try. But a little over a week later I’ve got to say that I’m not entirely hooked, and I’ve got a few qualms with the service. I’ve put together a list of five of the biggest issues I have with Tumblr thus far. Read on and let me know if you agree.

12seconds Monetizing Microblogging with UGC Ads?

Microblogging video service 12seconds.tv has added user-generated commercial options to its service today. 12seconds has emerged as a Twitter-like version of video sharing, with the bite sized update format being applied to its specific type of media. Add in Twitter integration and a recent iPhone application with a unique workaround, and it’s clear that 12seconds is determined to offer its features to as many users as possible, in every way possible.

But what about monetization? Creating revenue around the microblogging phenomenon has been difficult for the cream of the crop, so what does 12seconds think it can do in order to begin making money from the trend? User generated commercials. Called 12omercials, these tiny ads will be sponsored by brands, and created by 12seconds users. The point is to offer “dedicated” recommendations to the world, and generate some revenue all the while.

Tweeght Seeks the Meaning of Twitter

Tweeght is a new site that is a lot like Twitter, but is focused on enriching people’s lives with tweets published through its site. But what does that really mean for you? Share quotes, thoughts, or ideas–something Plinky is also moving towards. Express how you feel about someone else’s thoughtful tweet by voting it up or down. Find out who the most influential Twitter users are by checking the leader board. In essence, Tweeght is Twitter plus Pownce (without the multimedia) plus Digg.

And instead of competing with Twitter by building out its own community, Tweeght has just leveraged an existing Twitter API in order to enable Twitter users to submit their contributions directly through Twitter (that includes mobile updates as well). This encourages users to participate by making it that much easier to contribute–just sign in with your existing Twitter credentials.

CitySpeek Takes on Twitter with Integrated Video

Twitter is good and nice, but what if something better comes out? Will you abandon Twitter and start building your microblogging clout all over again? Well, you might as well try the new service first before even thinking of abandoning your Twitter followers. After it didn’t take you overnight to build your current hugh Twitter followings right? So, if you care to try a new microblogging or microsharing service rather, you might want to check out CitySpeek. continued…

Poodz – Rich Media Microblogging Platform

I will not try to find better words how to describe Poodz because Sid Yadav from Rev2 already did it – Twitter for the Other Media. I think for most of you the general idea is clear now. Let’s take very easy-to-use platform, give rich media support to it and we have very cool and interactive platform for people to communicate.

According to Lionel Guichard, which is founder of Poodz, this project was launched as a private beta in November 2007 in France and now, after making some changes into functionality and usability, they want to go for international users.

With Poodz you are able to use different ways how to communicate with your friends – post text, pictures or go and create some more interactive video and audio posts. With all that multimedia stuff it is real fun to use it and if you are Twitter or Pownce user already you may consider switching to Poodz. <strike>Why? Because you get more for the same price!</strike>
