RockYou Raises $10M in Funding From SoftBank in its 5th Round

rockyoulogoRockYou announced today a $10 million round of funding from Japanese technology giant Softbank and also purchased majority shares in its joint venture with SoftBank called RockYou Asia. RockYou plans on increasing its social gaming prowess in the Japanese, Korean and Chinese markets and is already live on Mixi in Japan, Xiaonei in China and Cyworld in Korea. Softbank is already a force in Japan with the country’s most popular search engine and e-commerce site. Japanese Virtual World Ameba Pico Shines On Facebook With 1.7MMAUs

3530_PicoAmeba Pico, the avatar-based virtual exploration community on Facebook, has amassed nearly 1.7 MMAUs on Facebook, after launching three months ago on March 8, 2010. According to the press release, Ameba Pico is seeing strong monetization with in-game microtransactions, experiencing nearly 300 percent growth in revenue from March to May. The game was developed by CyberAgent America, Inc, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based CyberAgent, who aims to bring internet-based Japanese media and services into the American market.
