Tapjoy, a company that provides monetization and distribution services, released today that they have a new way for independent developers to evolve their games into profitable and popular titles. According to the company, they plan to invest their resources and capital into pre-launch games that have the potential to become successful. If a game is chosen, it will receive monthly marketing credits to acquire new users through Tapjoy’s network of over 100 million social gamers and 200 million mobile consumers.

Twitter just announced on their blog this morning that they’ve made another acquisition, Cloudhopper, to boost up their SMS service. This purchase emphasizes Twitters origins as being intended for mobile use, via SMS. While the actual post is a bit vague on details, this acquisition is very likely the first of many, as Twitter fills out a number of areas in their core services.

This past week, Google Maps has seen a number of changes, especially to the mobile version, with voice search being amongst the most important. First, turn by turn navigation for Android devices was made available for the UK and Ireland. Now a “Search by Voice” feature for Google Maps 4.1 for Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 phones is out. That’s in addition to Google adding a Buzz layer to Maps, as well as revamping their Google Local Business Center as Places, the latter of which could have a positive impact on mobile LBS (Location-Based Services) applications.

Apple’s latest patent, iTravel, not only has the potential to give them a bigger chunk of the mobile payments and paperless ticketing markets, but also the potential to solve many of the airport bottlenecks, due to regulations, that have made traveling miserable for some of us in recent years. Following their Concert Ticket+ system, granted a patent last week, which suggested that Apple was after a piece of the revenues in concert and conference ticketing, they seem to be going after more than the lucrative travel ticketing business. While it’s not certain, these are features that will likely appear in iPhone OS 4.0 or some subsequent revision.
