iPhone Is Tracking It’s Location, What Does It Mean To You?

At the Where 2.0 conference Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden announced they have found that the iPhone and iPad 3G is collecting and storing location information on the device. The collection of the data has been occuring since the release of iOS 4. The information does not appear to be transmitted from the phone, but it is being stored unencrypted and unprotected on the device, although the only way to access the data is via the PC where you back up your iPhone.

Fourquare Plans To Implement Secure Communications For Mobile Apps

In light of apps like Firesheep that make it easy to capture unsecured data on public networks, and several hacking incidents, web application providers are moving towards securing all communications. Previously, sites like Facebook used HTTPS to only secure the login process, but now they are using HTTPS for accessing all parts of their site. While it is good that these sites are securing web communications, they need to provide the same security for their mobile apps that run on smartphones.

VeriFone Attacks Mobile Credit-Card Processing Company Square

VeriFone, one of the oldest and largest providers of credit card processing systems, has just entered into a very public and very direct confrontation with Square, the new kid in town. In his open letter, VeriFone CEO Doug Bergeron has termed Square’s credit card processing device “a skimming machine” that can be hacked by any reasonable programmer within one hour.

McAfee: Malware Attacks On Mobile Devices Growing Rapidly

With the tremendous rise in the popularity of smart phones, they have also become a prime target for cyber criminals. According to McAfee, the malware attacks on smart phones and other mobile devices connected to internet rose by 46 percent in 2010 to 967 threats, compared to 704 threats that McAfee registered on mobile devices in 2009.
