It’s no secret that we at Social Times are big fans of Google Plus’ Hangout feature, with it’s ability to easily have tens of people video chatting and sharing YouTube videos with just a few clicks.  Their latest addition, allowing people to start Hangouts in the comment threads of posts offers an experience I’ve never had before — off-the-cuff topical video chat.

Add to all of this the fact that Google is promoting the heck out of their network, and we may see G+ make some strides in 2012.  For their latest ad, they recruited the Muppets and sourced David Bowie. Pretty cool.

The Muppets have been making a comeback over the last year through the wonderful world of web video, with big YouTube hits like their version of Bohemian Rhapsody, which has garnered over 15 million views and took home two Webby Awards. Now the Muppets are taking their web video presence to the next level with not one, but two web series. The Muppets are now starring in two cooking shows online – one on Disney.com and one on Disney’s Family.com. So grab your apron and your spatula, and get ready to make a mess in the kitchen with The Muppets!

When I was little, nothing put a smile on my face like the Muppets – particularly Beaker and the Swedish Chef – but I was surprised to learn that until recently a lot of today’s youth had no idea who Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Scooter, Animal or Miss Piggy were! The Muppets had gone out of style somewhere between Muppets from Space and It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie. But starting last November the Muppets have been making a triumphant comeback – not on television, not on the silver screen, but on YouTube.
