New Media Index: Federal Salary Raises Dominate Blogosphere; Google Raises/Bonuses Rule Twitterverse

Bloggers shared the most news links to an item in USA Today saying that federal workers’ salaries have risen tenfold in the past five years and doubled since President Barack Obama took office, while good fortune for Google employees in the form of raises and holiday bonuses of $1,000 topped the list of most-Tweeted links, and the most-watched news and politics video on YouTube was Italian politician Nichi Vendola speaking about gay rights, according to the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism’s New Media Index for the week of Nov. 8-12.

The government workers’ windfall accounted for 21 percent of news links shared via the blogosphere, and it was followed by: global warming, at 17 percent; Grand Prix races, also at 17 percent; the Obama administration and the economy, at 12 percent; and an op-ed in USA Today by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) talking up her party’s achievements, at 6 percent.

ABC Revamps 'This Week' Website in Advance of Amanpour Debut

Amanpour072910.bmp ABC News has revamped the website for “This Week” with Christiane Amanpour set to take over the program Sunday.

No surprisingly, it now features Amanpour’s name and headshot, as well as a preview of Sunday’s program, which will feature Nancy Pelosi and Robert Gates.

In all likelihood, if Amanpour and her production team add new features or segments, they will find their way to the new site as well.

As for the PolitiFact fact checking page, it is still on the site, but as for whether the show will continue to feature the segment, viewers will have to wait til Sunday.
