Facebook Allows Users to Download Expanded Archive of Their Information (Inside Facebook)
The “Download Your Information” feature now includes catalogues of friend requests a users make, IP addresses they’ve logged in from and any previous names they’ve used, among other Facebook actions. This is in addition to the copy of photos, posts, messages, chat conversations, friend lists and other information that Facebook first made available for download in 2010. The New York Times Facebook, which is preparing for an initial public stock offering, most likely in May, has been trying to accommodate government officials in Europe, where privacy laws are more stringent than in the United States. Mashable The archive still doesn’t include your friends’ photos and status updates, other users’ personal info and comments you’ve made on other people’s posts. President Obama completed his first live Google Hangout on Monday, and the results were pretty good. Google has put up the video, and you can see that whether you agree with the answers or not, the overall effect of having Americans from all over the country asking live questions to the President is a very effective way to see the President in a variety of situations. Unfortunately, for this particular interview the questions were strongly moderated and the questions were a bit too vague — the whole interview had a positive vibe and some tough questions weren’t addressed.

Last January over 139,000 questions were submitted for a YouTube interview with President Obama. This year, YouTube is accepting question submissions for the next interview with the President, but this time they’re taking things to the next level—the interview will be conducted in a Google+ Hangout and participants that submit the top-voted questions will actually get to join the President in the Google+ Hangout and take part in the conversation live. Last year the most-asked questions were about the legalization of marijuana. Will the same happen this year?

Following tomorrow’s crucial State of the Union address, President Barack Obama will participate in a Google Plus Hangout next week to ostensibly field questions about his speech. He’ll be addressing questions from users who will have until January 28th to submit their questions via video. I’m curious to see how much of a draw the event has, and whether it will raise the profile of Google Hangouts.

Social Media Survey Says Only Half Would Vote for Obama Today [Infographic]

Market researcher Lab42 surveyed 500 social media users on politics and the findings are presented in this infographic. Two-thirds of adult social media users in the U.S. voted for Barack Obama in the 2008. Today, only half would vote for Obama if they knew what they know now. The findings also reveal top political issues, popularity of candidates, half of Facebook users post political messages and political news sources for social media users.

“We first dreamed up the idea back in May 2010 during the UK General Election after stumbling upon a few websites that were aggregating Twitter accounts for all the UK MPs. Back then there were only about 180+ out of the total of 650 MPs using Twitter, so it was quite a niche thing to do. However we also knew that MPs were using more than just Twitter; they had set up Facebook Pages, were uploading photos and videos and also pushing out more traditional blogs. The problem was, as a user it was impossible to track and see all that content, even as a political hack; there was too much information spread across too many formats,” explains Matt Freckleton, CEO and Founder of Yatterbox, and recent University of York graduate.
