Politico chief foreign-policy writer Laura Rozen is stamping her passport for Yahoo! News, coming on board as its senior foreign-affairs reporter, based in its Washington, D.C., bureau. She will also launch The Envoy, a blog focused on foreign policy.
Yahoo! executive editor of North American audiences Dave Morgan said:
The addition of Laura to The Upshot team is another example of how the Yahoo! News blogs have established themselves not only as a home to one of the industry’s largest audiences, but also a magnet for the industry’s best talent.
Politico Pro, the subscription series from Politico set to debut next month, announced four new hires.
David Nather is now aboard as senior health-care reporter. He had been with Bloomberg’s BGov project, and he is the author of The New Health Care System: Everything You Need to Know and the co-author, with former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.), of Getting It Done: How Obama and Congress Finally Broke the Stalemate to Make Way for Health Care Reform.
Lester Feder was also added to the health-care team. He has reported for publications including Newsweek, The Nation, and Slate, and he also served as Web editor for HealthReformGPS.org.
Former Palm Beach Post environmental reporter and editor Bob King joined Politico Pro as deputy energy editor.
And the subscription service added Web producer Brittany Hackett, who had been with Advisory Board’s news division, and who also served as editor-in-chief of The Gargoyle, the student newspaper at Flagler College.
The Huffington Post co-founders Arianna Huffington and Ken Lerer scoffed at accusations by Democratic consultants Peter Daou and James Boyce that the Web site was their idea and that a handshake agreement was violated, Politico reported.
Huffington and Lerer called the accusations “a completely absurd, ludicrous supposition” in an email to Politico, adding:
We have now officially entered into Bizzaro World. James Boyce and Peter Daou, two political operatives who we rejected going into business with or hiring six years ago, and who had absolutely nothing to do with creating, running, financing, or building The Huffington Post, now concoct some scheme saying they own part of the company. For months now, they have been trying to extract money from us. They are filing the lawsuit of course because we did not agree to any payment.
Daou and Boyce wrote in their complaint, according to Politico:
Huffington has styled herself as a “new media” maven and an expert on the effective deployment of news and celebrity on the Internet in the service of political ends. As will be shown at trial, Huffington’s and Lerer’s image with respect to The Huffington Post is founded on false impressions and inaccuracies: They presented the “new media” ideas and plans of Peter Daou and James Boyce as their own in order to raise money for the Web site and enhance their image, and breached their promises to work with Peter and James to develop the site together.
Daou and Boyce plan to file a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan, Politico reported.
Politico announced that its Politico Pro subscription service will debut in February under the leadership of Politico Pro editor-in-chief and Politico deputy managing editor Tim Grieve. Among other hires announced by Politico for Politico Pro:

Technology team: led by Kim Hart, who has covered the sector for Politico, The Washington Post, and The Hill, and including Tony Romm, co-author of Politico’s Morning Tech, and Jennifer Martinez from GigaOM and Tribune’s Washington bureau, as well as four other reporters.
Health care team: led by Diane Webber, a veteran of the New York Post, The Brooklyn Paper, Scholastic and other publications, along with Sarah Kliff and Jennifer Haberkorn, authors of the Politico Pulse morning newsletter.
Production: LaRonda Peterson will be production editor, joined by copy editor Abby McIntyre, and Web producers Kate Nocera, Jess Kamen, and Alex Guillen.
Sales and customer relations: led by Poppy MacDonald, along with Miki King, Khari Joseph, and Lauren Englander.
