Obama Admin Buys Misspelling of URL, Driving Traffic to WhiteHouse.gov

Obamicon2_2.24.gifLast month we wrote about the Paste Magazine site that allows users to create their own version of Shepard Fairey‘s iconic poster from the 2008 Presidential election.

The URL is obamicon.me.

Well, it turns out the Obama Administration is Web-savvy enough to have bought a misspelling of that URL. A WebNewser tipster tells us Obamaicon.me, now redirects to the WhiteHouse.gov Briefing Room blog.

Paste Magazine Taps Obamamania

Paste_1.13.pngPaste Magazine has launched Obamicon.Me where visitors can create their own version of artist Shepard Fairey‘s cult phenomenon poster from the 2008 Presidential election. Fairey’s poster, titled “Hope”, gained widespread acclaim during Barack Obama‘s campaign for the Presidency.

“Shepard’s original Hope poster was so iconic, we thought people would have fun making their own version to make their own personal statements about politics, culture or whatever,” said Josh Jackson, Editor-In-Chief of Paste magazine.

Since Obamicon.Me’s soft launch last Wednesday, more than 10,000 “Obamicons” have been created.
