The idea of the panel was to address the concerns of developers who are trying to better understand how to monitor their apps and what to look for in order to grow their app. The panel was joined by Immad Akhund of Heyzap, Suhail Doshi of Mixpanel, Manu Rekhi of Myspace and Jeffrey Tseng of kontagent.com. The key takeaways were that focusing on the right indicators is important and there are best practices developers can follow, both in measuring and implementing, that can help developers see an increase in retention and engagement in their social apps. Social Developer Summit 2010: The Challenges of Continuous Deployment

brettThe sessions continued with a talk from Chris at IMVU who spoke to us about continuous deployment. IMVU offers an avatar based chat through a Windows-based downloadable client and website client. Continuous deployment has been a tough process for IMVU, but now its fully ingrained in their company structure. Using diagrams and data in a helpful presentation, Brett walked us through the process of implementing a continuous build environment and some of the troubles they faced. Read more after the jump.

The amount of data being stored on the social web is enormous and harnessing that data as part of your business model is a priority for many but knowing how to effectively store and scale this data is somewhat of a mystery. This post offers some clarifications. In the social web economy, many use the term “developers” when describing organizations that build applications on top of platforms. While it’s not inaccurate to use this term, it has unfortunately replaced the true “developer” term which is a reference to software engineers.
