Mediate Senior Editor, Former TVNewser Editor Steve Krakauer Named Digital Producer for CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight

Mediaite senior editor and former TVNewser editor Steve Krakauer is becoming part of the media rather than covering it, joining CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, which will debut in January, as digital producer.

Krakauer was part of the team that launched Mediate in July 2009. Prior to that, he served as editor of sister blog TVNewser and participated in the NBC page program.

Piers Morgan Tonight executive producer Jonathan Wald said:

Steve has been a leading voice in the digital world, reporting on cable news, politics, and pop culture. He’ll be a great addition to the CNN team and will be instrumental in driving Piers Morgan Tonight beyond its one hour of television and into a more active online experience.

Arianna Huffington on the CEO Change at HuffPo: “Standing Still is Not Good”

Huffington_6.15.jpgThe Huffington Post has replaced Betsy Morgan as CEO of the company with board member Eric Hippeau, who will leave his position as managing partner of venture capital firm SoftBank Capital.

“This is a unique moment, and we felt we needed additional firepower to take it to the next level in an accelerated way,” co-founder Arianna Huffington tells WebNewser. “Standing still is not good.”

Huffington praised Morgan, who joined the site from CBSNews.com in October, 2007. The company raised $25 million from Oak Venture Partners in December. “We are at this moment when we can really capitalize on our growth and both accelerate monetizing traffic, which has grown six fold since Betsy became CEO,” she says. Morgan continues to be a significant shareholder in the company but gives up her board seat.

Hippeau, the former CEO of Ziff-Davis, begins his new job Thursday but his ties to the site go back to 2006. “He was the first to trust in what Huffington Post could become and invest in it,” says Huffington.

Jake Tapper: Blogging Before Blogging Was Cool

Tapper_1.14.jpgTVNewser’s Steve Krakauer talks with ABC’s senior White House correspondent Jake Tapper for this week’s “So What Do You Do?” feature.

Krakauer: A lot of TV news personalities now have a blog, but you’ve really been blogging on the Political Punch for a longer time and more frequently than pretty much anyone else in the field. What draws you to the medium?

Tapper: I am at heart a print reporter, and I think that that’s where it comes from. A lot of the stuff I blog is either stuff I’m reporting anyway for ABC News internally and figure I might as well put it up on the blog. Or it’s stuff I’m just interested in, or I read about it, or I hear about it, and I’m just curious. In trying to satisfy that curiosity, I end up writing something, and I put it on the blog. So it’s time-consuming, but a lot of it I would be doing anyway.
