Japanese-Language YouTube Person Finder Launches

YouTube announced the launch of the YouTube Person Finder, a channel dedicated to video messages from victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. More from product marketing manager Tai Hasegawa via the YouTube Blog:

We’re in the process of adding more than 80 video messages shot at the shelters by TBS, a major TV station in Japan, and we’ll try to increase the number of videos by adding more content from other TV stations and news network in the coming days.

We’re also trying to include videos shot by the individuals impacted themselves, but we have to wait until the infrastructure situation there recovers.

You can search for videos via the search box within the module: Enter the names of a missing person in Kanji, Katakana, or Hiragana letters (sorry Japanese letters only); the name of the place they lived; or the name of the shelter locations. You can also browse videos by Japanese alphabet on the playlist embedded within the video navigator in middle of the channel.

Our hope is that this channel will help victims and their families to establish each other’s safety, and that the video messages will reach many viewers and motivate them to contribute to the recovery and restoration of the disaster-stricken areas.

The Live Coco Cam: 24 Hours of Conan O’Brien on YouTube

Conan O’Brien will turn to YouTube to help promote Conan, his TBS show, which is set to debut Nov. 8, with a 24-hour live stream, The Live Coco Cam.

Conan blogger Aaron Bleyaert previewed The Live Coco Cam on the YouTube Blog:

People constantly ask me questions like, “Hey, Aaron, what’s it like to work at such an awesome show?” Or, “Hey, Aaron, what do you guys do all day in your offices?” Or even, “Aaron, you are incredibly handsome — how can one man have such stunning good looks?” The answer to that last one is simple: I moisturize.

For the answer to the first two, I invite you to tune in to the massive online comedy event we’re calling “The Live Coco Cam.” As the word “live” implies, it will be live. And as the word “Coco” implies, it will be TOTALLY AWESOME. Starting today at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, we invite you to take a look inside the wonderfully weird offices of the brand new Conan show as we prepare for our Nov. 8 debut on TBS. We’re shoving a camera in the second-floor stairwell of our offices and will be broadcasting all of the behind-the-scenes comedy madness live for 24 hours. Here’s a taste of the crazy:

Who’s gonna show up? What’s gonna happen? As our Live Coco Cam event unfolds, all the weird, funny, and tender (yes, tender) moments will be captured and uploaded to Team Coco’s official YouTube channel so you don’t miss a second of the action. In addition, we’ll be Tweeting about the events through the day and night from our Team Coco Twitter account, and we will be recapping all the events after they happen (as well as after the event ends) over on our show blog at TeamCoco.com … That is, if I survive the next 24 hours. ;)

Hitwise: Late-Night Talk Shows Added to Rankings, Won by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

WebNewser received the weekly television-related Web-site reports from Hitwise for the first time in three weeks, but the results for the week ending Sept. 18 came with a surprise: Late-night talk shows were added as a category, joining cable news, which debuted for the week ending July 3, as well as mainstays broadcast networks, broadcast shows, cable (adults only) shows, and broadcast and cable combined.

NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was No. 1 in the late-night category, followed by TBS’ Lopez Tonight, and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman.

MSNBC’s Zeitgeist topped the cable-news rankings, with Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor coming in second, and third place going to MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show.

On the broadcast charts, CBS and NBC were the top two broadcast-network Web sites, respectively, and the top three show sites were CBS’ Big Brother and Survivor, followed by Fox’s America’s Most Wanted. Fast risers were four offerings from The CW — One Tree Hill (to No. 7 from No. 22), Gossip Girl (10 from 26), 90210 (17 from 36), and The Supernatural — and Fox’s House (12 from 24).

Comedy Central’s South Park maintained its grip on the top spot for adults-only cable-network show sites, followed by MTV’s Jersey Shore and Comedy’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Fast risers were Bravo’s The Real Housewives of DC (18 from 30), Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race (19 from 45), and VH1′s VSPOT Top 20 Countdown (25 from 36).

When combining broadcast and cable shows, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants occupied its usual No. 1 perch, with Big Brother coming in second and South Park third. Fast risers were Survivor (6 from 33), Fox’s American Idol (22 from 51), and One Tree Hill (25 from 96).
