Will Facebook’s Timeline Last? A Closer Look at 7 Other Facebook Features from 2011

Facebook users are afraid of change, according to a USA Today poll released in mid-October, which revealed that 56% of Facebook users did not like Facebook’s latest changes. With that being said, Facebook users are constantly growing by the day. What keeps current users with the social networking platform, and what drives new users towards it? The answers are endless, but we should not be looking at what brings users to the platform, instead we should be looking at what drives users away. Timeline, Facebook’s “new kind of profile,” could be the underlying answer to the question at hand. continued…

Ad Agency Gets A Little Creepy With New Facebook Timeline Mash-Up Project

Ever since Mark Zuckerberg announced the new Facebook Timeline last week at F8, the Facebook community has been abuzz about the new design and its implications. While many of us have been sitting around waiting until our own profiles switch over to the new Facebook timeline, the crew at McCann Erickson in Tel Aviv have already been hard at work creating their first campaign with the new timeline—a Facebook timeline mash-up that brings together all ten members of their team on one (sorta creepy) timeline.

The New Social Grammar in Facebook Ticker & Timeline [Infographic]

Taking in Janice Diner’s Facebook Open Graph for new social grammar infographic provides a few useful definitions of the new Facebook Ticker and Timeline. I must admit, I am not all that versed in these two subjects, so Diner’s interpretation is helpful.

What Kind of Name is Kakabox?

Don’t let the name of the site throw you off. Kakabox.com is a new interactive site that offers a variety of useful, easy-to-use tools for parents. My favorite is placing photos of the newest addition to the family on a specially designed baby timeline. Parents can permanently capture those early golden moments and place them on a timeline as milestones.

Now, you might wonder do we really need another photo sharing web site. You decide. For me, I am a creative junkie and could use some help in organizing my pictures of my daughter. I love to take pictures, but putting them in chronological order is not my forte. Kakabox offers that solution.

Kakabox also offers a journaling section with an interactive aspect of the site that allows parents to take a spare minute and record by word and video the child’s life as it happens. Because the site is designed for sharing memories as well as saving them, family members share the baby’s first step, learning to ride a bicycle, the first day of school and all those other milestones in every child’s life. Sharing photos and videos is just one aspect of the site.

The site also offers a forum in which parents can ask specific health and child-related questions. Not only can other parents share their accumulated wisdom, but expert advice is also presented in articles covering topics such as how to choose a caregiver, how to feed the picky eater, food allergies and losing the belly fat. However, there are sites that offer this service, so it’s not unique.

Parents can also ask their own unique questions, getting answers about childcare matters that are troubling or perplexing. Topics range from picking names, sleeping problems to homemade baby food.

One of web site’s goals is to offer a social networking community environment designed to help mothers bond with other mothers. Photo contests for “Baby of the Month” are judged by members with fun prizes and awards. Activities, social events and even play-dates can be organized and scheduled easily.

The interaction is focused around parenting issues. Allowing the opportunity for members to trade tips and ideas, the new web site offers encouragement and suggests new approaches to the challenging task of raising healthy, happy, well-balanced children in today’s world.

Another useful feature of Kakabox is its Sleep Mode, an idea but doesn’t work for me. The program is more of a hypnotizing instrument with classical music. If the Sleep Mode just offered a list of soothing lullabies to help ease the baby to sleep, it would do the job for even the most unwilling baby to relax enough to fall asleep. Let’s skip the hypnotic laptop screen.

Remember, the name of the web site is misleading. Kakabox is still very young and has plenty of room to grow. New features will be coming in the future such as printing books and calendars, which I like. The chronological tool seems to be the most useful tool, which helps to share with family and friends photos and videos of your child’s developmental years.

Twitter Tests Promoted Tweets in HootSuite Timeline

Twitter has unveiled its next step in a three-part plan to roll out the promoted tweets it announced in April – inserting them into user’s timelines. Twitter will be integrating promoted tweets into certain users’ timelines on HootSuite, testing the feature before presumably rolling it out on Twitter.com and other platforms.

Lifestreaming Made Easy From Anywhere

Would you pay several dollars a month to save, edit and and search logs that you build to record your activities? Logdit, a new software as a service (SaaS) application, certainly hopes so. The horizontal platform lets you create, run and update logs that are driven by your interests. (BTW, there’s a free package too).

The instant publishing platform suggests updating dynamic content such as… continued…
