Digg CEO Matt Williams to Sit in Digg Dialogg Hot Seat

The latest installment of Digg Dialogg will feature someone quite familiar around Digg headquarters: CEO Matt Williams.

Questions can be submitted to Williams as comments on his post on the Digg Blog through Thursday at 9 a.m. PT, and the full interview will be posted Tuesday, Feb. 1, at noon. Williams wrote:

Over the past four months since I’ve joined Digg, our team has been committed to staying connected with our community. From San Francisco to Serbia, we’ve received tens of thousands of comments and suggestions. I’ve also had the chance to meet in person with many longtime users of Digg, through lunch gatherings and focus groups in a few different cities.

We’ve been listening closely to your feedback, and the result is a number of changes to Digg.com — such as reinstating buries, bringing back the Upcoming section, adding filters to browse images and videos more easily, and launching an improved mobile site. We’re hard at work on other features and site design changes you’ve requested, so stay tuned.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on how to make Digg.com great. Please keep it coming.

Webby Awardz: From Biz Stone to Trent Reznor

meyers_6-9.jpgLast night’s marathon Webby Awards featured what seemed like an endless stream of awards — while speeches were held to just five words (some media-related speeches after the jump).

Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers had the task of keeping the event moving, and the crowd entertained. “I love when old media praises new media,” he said. “It’s like when an old guy says how much he likes the tennis pro his wife is fucking.”

Meyers sprinkled in several Twitter references, including one about the guy who tweets as his cat (and has 600,000+ followers). “Just think: five years ago if you wanted to know what a guy thinks his cat is thinking you’d be an idiot,” said Meyers.

Later, he took a swipe at the new Microsoft (a sponsor of the event) search engine. “Bing, as in ‘Hey I just Googled Bing,” he said.

Before the event we talked to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, who has turned to his Twitter base of fans to raise money for a person in need of a heart transplant. He described how getting sober helped lead him to Twitter and social media charity work:

Internet’s Inventor Gets Top Webby Award

TBL_5.27.jpgThe guy who created this thing we now take for granted, you know, the thing that makes it possible for me to write this and for you to read this — the Internet. Well, in what is probably the best thing to happen to him since he was knighted in 2004, Sir Tim Berners-Lee will be honored with a Webby Lifetime Achievement Award next month.

Berners-Lee created the first versions of the technologies – including HTML, URL, and HTTP – that turned the Internet, previously a domain of scientists and researchers only, into a mass medium. Since he invented the Web twenty years ago, Berners-Lee has remained its most active and passionate advocate, working tirelessly to ensure that it remains open and free. He founded the World Wide Web Consortium in 1994 and currently serves as director of the World Wide Web Foundation.

On June 8, Berners-Lee will be saluted alongside Webby Award winners and other Special Achievement honorees, including Jimmy Fallon (Person of the Year), Trent Reznor (Artist of the Year), and Twitter (Breakout of the Year) at the 13th annual Webby Awards.
