Google Research Team Creates “aLOLgorithm” to Measure YouTube Videos’ Hilarity

There are a ton of funny videos on YouTube, but which are the most hilarious? How would you quantify funniness? Is ‘Surprised Kitty’ funnier than the ‘Sneezing Baby Panda’? Where does ‘Charlie Bit My Finger’ fall on the funny scale? Google Research decided to find out so they created an algorithm to quantify comedy.

EmbedPlus Turns YouTube Into A Language Learning Tool

Way back in December of 2010 we introduced you to EmbedPlus, a cool tool that lets you add extra functionality to embedded YouTube videos, from annotations to instant replay, slo-mo, and more. Now, EmbedPlus is using their technology for something entirely new and exciting—language learning. Users that want to learn how to pronounce a specific word can search for that word and then hear it said in real life situations…in YouTube videos. It certainly beats the dry, monotone examples you’ll find on typical dictionary sites.

Over 2 Million People Watched The Super Bowl Online…Did You?

Is Vimeo Up For Sale? IAC Rumored To Be Looking To Sell Half The Video Site

YouTube CEO Salar Kamangar On Why YouTube Is “Channelizing”

YouTube is taking things in an entirely new direction in 2012, as you’ve probably heard. They’ve spent somewhere in the vicinity of $100 million to launch 100 new professional content channels over the course of this year, with channels ranging from the Wall Street Journal to action sports, education and entertainment being among the first to launch. Why has they decided to “channelize”? CEO Salar Kamangar explained in an interview earlier this week at All Things Digital’s D: Dive Into Media conference.
