Online properties are facing an uphill battle with limited attention spans and patience of users, especially in the registration department. Registered users are quite valuable for both online publishers and e-commerce sites for many reasons and these companies are looking to use social sign-on to get more registrants without giving up rich profile data, according to a new research report from Gigya and Edge Research entitled “The Value of Social Sign-On and the Registered User.” About 25 percent of online publishers and e-commerce sites have already implemented social-sign on and another 25 percent are currently in the process of doing so. Majority of interviewees are comfortable with social sign-on so we should see an increased number of sites and apps implementing this.

Google Buzz launched at the beginning of February and since then, the product has seen a doubling in usage, just in the past month according to sharing service AddThis. Today, the company announced new buttons that enable website owners to have their content promoted via Google Buzz.

A Blidget allows you to turn your blog into an instant widget that can be installed by other Website owners. For example, if you have a blog on career advice, you can create a Blidget and hope that other employment-related Websites will display your content.
There are thousands of widgets available for installation. These can be found via search or by Tab.

After landing a partnership with AOL/Userplane last year, JS-Kit has positioned itself for even wider distribution and potential for ongoing partnerships and branding. The deal between JS-Kit and AOL has officially come to fruition this week, with AOL/Userplane now distributing the JS-Kit 5 Star Ratings widget, greatly expanding JS-Kit’s reach to another several hundred thousand partner sites. To sweeten the deal, JS-Kit 5 Star Ratings widgets have also become the de facto standard with Userplane/AOL, HaloScan, and WorldNow.
The 5 Star Rating widget seems trivial but most publishers out there know that ratings can be powerful measures for rating and recommending content within a site or an entire network. Given JS-Kit’s own network approach, recommendations based on a number of publishers’ ratings helps other publishers in turn.
On the flip side, JS-Kit will also be distributing the Userplane MiniChat widget to all of its partner sites as well. Combined, the reach for these two widget offerings extends to nearly 1 million registered publishers, but what does that mean?
