Delectable Wine Helps You Remember Great Vintages

Screen Shot 2013-09-20 at 2.28.50 AMRemembering great bottles of wine can be a challenge. Delectable Wine wants to solve this problem by giving you a location to store lists of your favorite wines and help you discover other wines that you might like.

The free iOS app uses your phone’s camera to take a photo of a wine bottle’s label. It then scans the label to match it with the bottle that you are drinking and gives you the name of the winemaker, the vintage and the wine name. The app includes a wine journal, so you can save notes on your favorite wines. There is also a social component, so you can follow your friends and sommeliers to get recommendations about other bottles. Read more

Wine Spectator Updates WineRatings+ iPad App

Wine Spectator, the publication dedicated to the drink of the gods, has updated its WineRatings+ iPad app, expanding the app’s “picks” and “blue-chip collectibles” sections and adding more budget-friendly wine recommendations to the app’s “biggest bargains” list. The app’s Version 3.1 also includes the publication’s latest choice for the “Top 100 Wines.”

The app is designed for wine fans of any background (both new and knowledgable) to explore vintage bottles from 55 of the world’s main wine regions. It includes news feeds with links to stories on wine news and events, as well as instructional videos on how wine is made and what to look for in a wine. The app also includes a search tool that lets readers query bottles by price, rating or producer to help wine shoppers locate the perfect bottle.

Like most other apps, if you like something in the Wine Spectator app, you can share it with your friends via Facebook, Twitter and email. Basic access to the app is free, but you can also subscribe for $2.99 to access the publication’s database of wine reviews, which includes more than 275,000 reviews.
