WordPress released a major update for their iOS blogging app. I took it for a spin on an iPad 2. You can see the blog post result in the screenshot above. As you can see the updated app includes a fully rendered preview feature.

WordPress 1.2 for Windows Phone: Landscape Editing, UI Improvements & More

Tumblr Hits 250 Million Page-Views a Day

The popular microblogging platform, Tumblr, announced this week that it has crossed 250 million page-views per day, according to quantcast. This is positive news for the platform that was founded by David Karp in 2007. The service allows users to post text, images, videos, audio, links, and quotes to their tumblelog, a short-form blog.

Blog from Windows Phone 7 to WordPress, Tumblr, Posterous & Blogger Too!

I’ve been a Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional) in the Windows CE/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile/Windows Phone category for over a decade now. People are awarded the MVP distinction for a variety of reasons. But, one common thread is that MVPs share their knowledge in a wide variety of ways. Microsoft has been collecting some of the knowledge MVPs share in the Microsoft MVP Award Program Blog. I recently provided a guest blog article on a topic that I think about and experiment with a lot: Mobile blogging.

MVPs for Windows Phone 7: Blogging While on the Move with a Windows Phone

In the article I cover using a Windows Phone 7 smartphone to directly create and post content to blogs using WordPress, Tumblr or Posterous services. Blogs can be created an hosted for free on any of these platforms/sites. However, I forgot to mention a big platform in my article: Google’s Blogger. Thanks to @weemundo for pointing this out to me on Twitter. This follow-up blog posts will fill in that gap.

There’s a Windows Phone 7 WordPress app to create and manage WordPress hosted blogs (either by WordPress itself or self-hosted). Posting mobile blogs to Tumblr and Posterous involves a simple to setup email process. There isn’t a native Windows Phone app to post blog items to Blogger. However, like Tumblr and Posterous, Google/Blogger provides a simple email mechanism that can be used. This process is described here on a Blogger help page.

How do I post via email?

Blogger provides a unique email address that accepts posts just for your blog. Anyone who knows the secret word and your username can post a blog item to your blog. So, be sure to keep the secret word a secret like your password. Like Posterous, Blogger translates the following email components into blog components:

Email title -> Blog title
Email text -> Blog text
Attached digital photo -> blog image

You can add a pound sign (“#”) to the end of your intended blog text to make sure that other unnecessary items like email signatures do not get posted into your blog entry.

Stable WordPress for iOS 2.7.2 Available. Plans for 2.8

WordPress for iOS (iPhone and iPad) was a buggy mess of an app for version after version starting shortly after its initial release in 2008. Fortunately for iPhone and iPad users, its developers did not simply give up and leave it that way. I’ve found that it has become stable enough to be use for regular blog writing without issue over the past few weeks. The latest release (2.7.2) is supposed to have fixed 28 issues.

WordPress says that they believe that with stability achieved they can now focus on enhancing the blogging app’s functions.

What’s next for WordPress for iOS

Their plan for the next release, version 2.8, includes the following enhancements:

- Localization
- Stats view
- Quick Photo Button

What’s the Most Reliable Blogging Service?

Thanks to tough years for Twitter and Facebook, we’ve been getting used to unavailable social media platforms, even if we aren’t at all satisfied with it – it’s almost becoming an expectation.
WordPress, Federated Media Publishing Serve Up FoodPress

Blogging platform WordPress and content publisher Federated Media Publishing will attempt to satisfy the appetite of readers who are hungry for food-related content with FoodPress, edited by Jane Maynard and featuring excerpts from topical WordPress blogs.

WordPress editorial czar Joy Victory wrote on the WordPress Blog:

“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.”

Those wise words are from celebrity chef Julia Child, who was never shy about following her passions in life.

Child was passionate about many things, but especially food — and she shares that in common with WordPress.com bloggers, who publish thousands of mouth-watering recipes and food stories every day.

For that reason, we couldn’t resist building a special new site dedicated to showing off the amazing breadth of food-related posts on WordPress.com. Today we’re thrilled to announce FoodPress, the go-to destination for the hottest dishes from WordPress.com bloggers. To help us run the site, we’ve partnered with publishing company Federated Media. Each day, FoodPress features snippets of posts, which is designed to get new people to discover and then click through to a blog.

If you’re wondering how posts are selected for the site, it’s easy: They’re all hand-picked by FoodPress editor Jane Maynard. She finds most of the posts by scouring food-related tag pages like food, recipes, baking, cocktails, and more — so if you’re a food blogger, be sure to use tags on your posts.

BuddyPress Upgrade Brings Social Features To All WordPress Sites

WordPress has released version 1.2 of BuddyPress, which was originally developed to add social media features to sites based on WordPress MU (multiuser). We previously covered BuddyPress back in November of 2007 and had tried to implement the service unsuccessfully on this site.

Google Buzz Button WordPress Plugin

After Google launched Buzz just a few days ago there are already big speculations would it be next big thing – will see. But what I’m sure – if it grows massive you (blogger) would not like to miss it.

Big tech blogs like Mashable and TechCrunch have already added Google Buzz buttons to their articles for people to share their content. If you also want to have such feature on your blog download Google Buzz plugin here. With just a few click you will be able to setup the button and place in custom location on your blog.

Download The Plugin

Plugin is the easiest way to add Buzz button, but if you want to customize it more and build your own here is explained how to add button manually.

And if you like this article Buzz it!

WordPress Prepares Platform for its Transformation to a Social Network

If you are like me who always keeps the version of WordPress installation on my personal blogs always updated, you may have probably updated your site to WordPress 2.7, aka Coltrane which became available awhile ago. Honestly, I just took the plunge without having read the update features. So I was a bit shock when I first login to my WP dashboard and thought I could have probably entered the wrong site. The WordPress 2.7 dashboard is totally different from previous releases of WordPress. And honestly, it was a great thing. continued…

This is one for those bloggers out there. What if you could have a service automatically include/recommend links as you write? Well, if you’re (English language) blogging in WordPress, Blogger, Moveable Type or Typepad, and willing to give startup Zemanta a run, your time is now. continued…

RotrBlog Redesign Dedicated To BarCamp Baltics

New, better design for RotorBlog is up and running.

Last time I redesigned this blog in 1st May last year when blog turned one year old. It was also important because I participated in 1st may reboot event and we, together with other Latvian bloggers, had pretty interesting and notable local event/party. After that I decided to redesign Rotor every year in 1st May as we thought to stick to this tradition and redesign our websites together with others all over the world. But now you can see I have changed my mind and launched new design already.

There are several reasons why I did this. First one is that the previous design was old. Yes, I didn’t like it anymore and I wanted to come up with something new to add more solid look to the blog.

Second reason is that I redesigned Rotor last year because of 1st May reboot event. This event, I think, was pretty important to the Latvian blogosphere and I wanted to participate. So, this weekend we have one much more important event – BarCamp Baltics 2008! So, I decided to launch new design right now and dedicate it to the Barcamp event as I think the event will be just great and will shake the web industry people in this region. I will try to write couple posts about what’s interesting will happen here these days in Riga so stay tuned!

Also it would be very nice to hear your thoughts about now design so feel free to add your comments below!
