Tap Fish Swims Past 10 Million Downloads On iTunes App Store

Gameview Studios is celebrating the anniversary of Tap Fish, their flagship game that has recently surpassed 10 million downloads in the iTunes App Store. More after the jump.

Riz Virk, co-founder of Gameview Studios, affirms his faith in focusing on increasing the stickiness of social games. This stickiness is possible with giving players access to their own pets they can care for and watch grow. The longevity of the Tap Fish franchise then depends on the business model – clearly a virtual goods driven model that placed Tap Fish among the top grossing games in 2010.

The full line of Gameview titles now includes:

•   Tap Jurassic – Build your very own Jurassic park with dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, then breed those animals together to see what new species you can create.
•   Tap Ranch – Grow your own crops, raise livestock and other animals, and invest in “makers” to produce your own cheese, wine and fruit pies.
•   Tap Town – Create your own town by building ice cream shops, cinemas, chocolatiers, tree houses, 5 star hotels, mansions and more – just keep your town happy to attract new residents.
•   Tap Mall – Become a mall tycoon by building and operating your own successful, profitable mall, which can be outfitted any way you like to fit your personal style and attract more shoppers.
•   Tap Birds – Own and decorate your own aviaries, where you can grow, sell and breed Toucans, Amazon Parrots, Rainbow Lorikeets and other birds – but don’t forget to clean up after them!
•   Titans vs Olympians – Collect cards featuring Zeus, Prometheus, Atlas and other gods, goddesses and legendary warriors, then challenge other players worldwide in battles for supremacy.

Gameview is looking to port their titles to Android later this year, finding it to be an attractive platform due to its rapid growth rate. And that’s no mystery as Gameview was acquired in 2010 by DeNA. DeNA also acquired ngmoco and with it their gaming platform. Mobage-town which is set to launch later this year on Android with 50 million users and will be a perfect launch point for their apps.

Aquatic games seem to be hot, especially Aqua Pets – a new aquarium style game for Android by Bionic Panda that’s delivering a high replay experience to its players. The marriage of mobile and social is a perfect one especially as location based elements become an integral component to many innovations. Gameview seems to have duplicated its model across all the games, adding their own twist.
