More than two years ago, Verizon Wireless developed the “Big City Wireless User Study” to compare the growth of text messaging in the southeast, specifically Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
The results, which studied text-message growth from April 2006 through April 2008, reveal that Tennessee is the “textiest” state. In the two-years covered, text messaging in Tennessee grew by 520%.
Within Tennessee, Nashville tops the list, with that city’s Verizon Wireless customers sending and receiving 819 million texts from January-April ’08 alone. Knoxville and Chattanooga took the second and third spots, with their residents working those keypads for 420 million and 408 million messages respectively in the same timeframe.
