The Internet’s Got Tesla Fever: New Kickstarter Campaign Aims To Tell Tesla’s Life Story

The Oatmeal has made headlines this summer with his Indiegogo campaign to buy back the old Wardenclyffe laboratory of Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla, best known for his contributions to our modern day electrical system, and turn it into a museum.  The campaign surpassed its goal of $850,000 in a matter of days and now stands at over $1.1 million with a month to go.  And it looks like The Oatmeal and friends aren’t the only ones with Tesla Fever—a new Kickstarter campaign aims to raise $35,000 by September 9 to tell the life story of Nikola Tesla.

‘Electricity: The Story and Life of Nikola Tesla’ is a made for television docudrama all about Nikola Tesla’s work and relationships, created by engineer and entrepreneur Wilhelm Cashen and Carol Bourgeouis, who has spent years studying Tesla’s life.  The two discuss the project in the Kickstarter video below.

A spokesperson told us via email, “It is shaping up to be the perfect time for the American public to finally learn about Tesla, or to revisit what little they might already know about the man.  Whether it’s The Oatmeal’s staggering success in rallying the Internet around Wardenclyffe, the rumored biopic starring Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale (who also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Tesla-influenced ‘The Prestige’), or even the car company using Tesla’s name and invention to power the future of driving, Tesla’s visionary work and bittersweet biography are as astonishing and relevant as ever.”

The campaign has raised $12,997 from 230 backers so far.  They’ve got nine days to go to reach their $35,000 goal.  Rewards include Tesla CHANGE HISTORY buttons, Tesla stickers and eWallpaper, film credits, Nikola Tesla figures, calendars, making-of videos, early release directors cuts of the film, t-shirts and more.

And if you’re not sure why Nikola Tesla was the greatest geek who ever lived, let The Oatmeal explain!
