Tracey Moberly has just published her book, and it took her 12 years to write it. That’s not so unusual for first novels, but it is here.
This isn’t a novel. Instead, this book is a collection of all the IMs Tracey sent and received over the past 12 years and used them as the source. She’s used the snippets to weave a story, and she’s also illustrated the book with her original artwork. The book also has work by some of the people who sent her texts.
I think the artistic aspects of this book are worth noting. She’s taken ephemeral, transitory content and gathered it into a permanent form. This is also a collection of bits of data that she gave away freely and now wants to charge for. Interesting.
If you’d like to buy a copy, you can find it selling for £20 at the link. And if you’d like to learn more about the concept behind the work, here’s a video interview starring the author.
