Terrifying Crash Video Warns Against Texting And Driving

Don’t text and drive!  Oprah warns against it, a multitude of video campaigns tout the dangers and there are even mobile apps to help you avoid it.  But if none of those things has convinced you not to text and drive, a new YouTube video just might.  ‘DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE’, a video featuring a driver texting his way into an accident, was uploaded to YouTube at the end of last week.  It has already racked up more than half a million views.  Read on to find out more, and check out the video below.

The video was uploaded by weight loss and fitness YouTuber Sean Symons.  Apparently Sean saw a teen driver texting and followed him, making a video.  According to a follow up video, Sean says that when he first saw the texting driver he called the police and was making a video on his iPhone in order to capture the texting driver’s plates.  He said, “I called the police.  I honked and flashed my lights…he still drove all over the road.  I decided to film at a safe distance to show the police.”  Little did he know that he would catch an accident on video.

According to the follow up video, the drivers involved in the accident were fine, though it looks like there was some pretty severe damage to their cars.  However, Sean is taking advantage of the fact that he caught it all on tape to warn about the dangers of texting and driving.  He has uploaded the video and embedded it on Dont-Text-And-Drive.blogspot.com.

There’s no proof, per se, that this guy was actually texting and driving.  But does that really matter?  It is clear that he was preoccupied while on the road.  Back in 2009, video footage of a bus driver slamming into an SUV while texting and driving was aired on the Today Show.  Hopefully more footage like this will serve as a wakeup call for texting and driving offenders.  Would you still text and drive after watching this video?  Let us know in the comments below.
