Thanksgiving Rebranded ‘Mobile Commerce Day’

m-commerce, tablet, e-commerceThanksgiving Day saw twice the mobile traffic and three times the mobile sales that it did last year, according to analytics released by Branding Brand.

On Thanksgiving, 20 percent of all e-commerce traffic came from smartphones. The average order rose 20 percent to $81.

Mobile commerce rose on Black Friday, too, Branding Brand said, but not as much.

The mobile commerce company gets its data from an index of 66 mobile sites in variety of e-commerce verticals.

“While Thanksgiving Day has traditionally been the quiet before the storm, 2012 was different. This year, many retailers opened on Thanksgiving or started their Black Friday deals early online,” said Branding Brand CEO Chris Mason.

Fab.com, which saw its mobile sales jump from 33 percent to 40 percent on Thanksgiving Day, is playfully re-dubbing the national holiday Mobile Commerce Day.
