The Met Launches 100-Episode Web Series On Eye-Opening Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has turned to the web to share eye-opening artwork with the world in a new web series, “82nd & Fifth”.  The series, which consist of 100 two-minute videos, two of which will be released each Wednesday through December 25, features The Met’s curators talking about “100 works of art that changed the way they see the world.”

The episodes are made up of commentary from 100 different museum curators, each speaking about a different piece of art in the museum that they believe is important within the art world.  The commentary is interpreted visually by eleven museum photographers.

Met CEO and director Thomas Campbell said in a press release on the museum’s website, “82nd & Fifth is a project that speaks directly to my interest in using the Met’s collection to link historical art and culture to the real world.  In a sea of constant information, these two-minute, authoritative commentaries are a welcome way to get powerful and compelling content in quick doses.  We hope they will intrigue audiences who love the Met and those who are new to art.”

The series, which launched on January 31 with six inaugural episodes, can be viewed at 82nd-and-fifth.metmuseum.org.  Inaugural episodes include Faith, a study of Antonio Rossellino’s Madonna and Child with Angels; Modern Living, a look into Frank Lloyd Wright’s Little House Living Room; String Theory, an episode on the art of musical instruments looking at a guitar created by Hermann Hauser; Prime of Life, focusing on a Fang female reliquary; Winners and Losers, on Giovanni Battista Tiepolo’s The Triumph of Marius; and Altered States, a look at Rembrandt’s Christ Crucified between the Two Thieves: The Three Crosses.
